I've got a lovely Mbox classic sitting on my shelf I can no longer use since upgrading to Snow Leopard. If anyone would like to trade their Mini for my Mbox 1st generation unit, let me know. I can tell you it has better A/D converters and TRUE line inputs, unlike the Mbox2 series. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

I was in the same boat. (to try switch out an mbox1 for an mbox2). It's not exactly an even trade. there's the snow leopard issue, and also the fact that the software can no longer be upgraded mbox 1. I ended up going the ebay route, and found that the mbox 1 was going for somewhere in the $75-100 range, while the mbox2 was around $130-175, and that was without software.
I think the mbox2mini is perfect for VO. I love the monitor in/out switch. I think the mbox1 has ins and outs that aren't really needed for doing simple mono tracking. As far as the conversion, to my ears, the mbox2 sounder better. However, I preferred the preamps in the original vs the mbox2...although the difference, to me, was subtle.
there are rumors that the mbox3 will arriving shortly, so that probably means there will be mega deals on the remaining stock of mbox2 minis... |
