I received an audition from a studio affiliate this morning and promptly recorded and submitted it. Within the last hour, I received the same audition from another such affiliate. I emailed them to say, "Sorry, I submitted for this earlier today through another agent, but thanks." They wrote back, saying they didn't mind talent submitting to multiple studios.

While submitting multiple times probably doesn't increase the talent's chances any, I can see why studios wouldn't care, as they're hoping to get the gig just as the talent is. But what about the client? Wouldn't we think multiple submissions from the same talent would add to their workload (and perhaps annoy them)? Or would they not even notice?

Your thoughts?

I think you're bound to piss somebody off some time with multiple submissions. If you have time to make a decision I'd say go with the agent/house that you like or trust the most. In this case I'd just pass. I pass on jobs with agents from time to time and they don't seem to mind. Ya cain't do em all some days!

That's what I was thinking, Bruce. Someone, somewhere down the line won't like it. Ordinarily, I would submit to the agent/house I like or trust the most, but I do 'em as I get 'em, and - as in this example - sometimes one audition arrives hours before the other. So I'll just pass.

Thanks muchly!

Before the Internet this rarely happened, of course. One time years ago, I had an agent in Orange County and one in San Diego and I got a call from both of them for an audition - one where you had to go and show your face - can't remember if this was on-camera or VO - just remember the indignant response from the agent who called me second. They thought the other agent was crossing the exclusivity line.

With the Voicebank leads - I get the same audition from 3 agents sometimes. New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles - usually New York is first.

Mike,
I believe it would be bad form for me to submit twice through more than one agency for the same gig.
These days, I sometimes receive the same audition for up to 4 different sources. I always respond to whoever sent it first. And like Connie sez, it's many times NY that comes in earliest.
