Hi guys,
I've posted a few times here and there in the past but am back to talk with the pros
I am only recently trying to set up a very minimal home studio..with the hope that as work comes in, I can upgrade.
Tried to record a few spots in my walk in closet and it was sounding a bit muffled. I was using the little desktop stand that came with my mic, but decided it would probably make more sense to move the mic up a bit so that it is more level with the clothes in the closet. Not sure whether that will work, but I'm having a problem figuring that out b/c I can't seem to hook the mic up to the mic stand.
The guy at the audio store said I just needed to take out the little silver thing (sorry, you won't get a lot of technical words from me, but it does seem to screw in by threads) and then the mic should screw right into the stand. Not having much luck getting that thing out tho..even went to the local hardware store. and they didn't have the right tool --i think it would have to be a large flathead screwdriver ?
Regardless the mic as it is now (with the silver thing in it) doesn't screw into the mic stand. It does screw into the desktop stand that it came with (of course)
So, do I really need to get this silver thing out? Does anyone else have experience ideally with an audio technica 2020 mic usage on a mic stand? Or any other type of mic? Am I missing something?
I can go to home depot tomorrow and see if they've got the right tool. Just seems kinda crazy that I need to do this. Maybe I need to get a different mic stand?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer me. Clearly I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to this technical stuff. I have a feeling I'll have lots of other questions but I'm really thinking I'd love to get this mic up and running on the stand first.

Hi Lori,
I know it may sound silly, but try using a coin of the appropriate size to back out that insert from the clip. |

nope doesn't sound silly, i tried, but it is difficult to get leverage and wasn't turning at all. but the fact that it does have those two notches that something could fit into (i.e a dime or flat head screwdriver) leads me to believe that it does come out. guess i am trying home depot tomorrow...unless someone else has another great idea! |

Back in the day, I once put the mic on its desk stand on top of a padded music stand and raised the music stand to the right height. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |
