Hollywood Friday reported the passing of entertainer Eddie Fisher, originally known for his crooning to the bobby soxers, but more well-known for his marriages; first to Debbie Reynolds, his affair with and subsequent marriage to Elizabeth Taylor (and others). The father of actress Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), his popularity nose-dived in the 1960s due to public opinion on his affair with Ms. Taylor and then divorce from Ms. Reynolds.
On an episode of 'The (original) Hollywood Squares' from the early 1970s, Eddie Fisher's name came up in a question to none other than the late, great comedian Paul Lynde:
Host Peter Marshall: Eddie Fisher said recently, "I am sorry. I am sorry for them both." Who or what was he referring to?
Paul Lynde: (without missing a beat) Oh, his fans.
Uproarious laughter. _________________ Mike
