A friend of mine is looking for a Mac-compatible USB mic. Any recommendations? _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

You should try doing a "search" in the Gear section. This has been touched upon many times. _________________ The Blog:

New products come out all the time so I thought starting a new thread would be more appropriate to give my friend the best information possible. Thanks for the suggestion, though! _________________ Tom Dheere - The "H" is Silent, but I'm Not!

+1. Better quality and very, very minimal additional gear to carry. |

I responded on Facebook with the same advice Amy gave you here, so, naturally, I agree with Amy. MicPort Pro and any mic you already like. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

You asked about a USB mic. The Samson CO3U is a surprisingly good sounding USB mic, for the price. It's fairly quiet and what makes it good for VO is that it's supercardiod, much like a Sennheiser 416. It has a focused pick up pattern.
I've used one for remote recording for about four years.
I generally use a 416 at the studio, so that's my comparison. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

There has not been that much advancement in USB mics to write home about. Most of which have been mostly cosmetic changes at best. Bill's offering of the Samson CO3U is about as good as any.
Most pro VO's don't use USB mics. They are good starter mics to work out with or dare I say -a pod cast. Even then there are better options for a little more investment. _________________ The Blog:

I am a fan of the Shure PG42USB, a USB version of the PG42.
It's really tough to beat for $250.
+102951 for the MicPort Pro _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
