Yesterday I got the call that I had booked a gig I auditioned for earlier in the week! It was for a fortune 500 company, be in the studio in downtown Chicago at 10:00 today, blah blah blah...

Nice! I got all spiffed up and showed up 15 minutes early. Two representatives from the ad agency showed up, and I introduced myself, "Hey, I'm Adam!" We moved into the control room with the engineer and the studio owner. We discussed the patching in of the client from New York soon to happen.

At about 10:05 one of the ad reps said..."so, where's Andrew?" The studio owner looks around confusedly..."who's Andrew?" Ad rep: "You know, the voice talent, is he running late?"

Dead silence.

So yeah - to make a long awkward story short, due to some miss-communication they had brought in the wrong VO. The studio owner felt horrible, obviously, and ran off to try and get "Andrew" in as soon as possible. And I...tried to exit graciously and quickly. Smile Ick. And kinda disappointing Smile

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that.......awkward and disappointing.....It'll happen for real next time!! Somebody ELSE really dropped the ball there. Not your fault.

Thanks asnively - they paid me a little bit for the trouble, but probably 1/5th or 1/10th of what the gig would have paid. Frown

I've had the dream, but never the experience. What a bummer.

On the up side...

Hey man, maybe you should drop the owner of the studio and the agent a note expressing your understanding. If you rise above it will put you in a different light in their minds.

Sorry to hear about the drag session, but I do feel that karma will kick another good one back soon!

I love your tag line as well! '..On Time' and you proved it!

it might indeed be a nice, backward way to get to know the agency folks for the next time.

but, man...i never even had a DATE that bad!

haha! the date line made me snarf my soda!
I do think it would show that you are a stand up talent. Coming from both sides of this business, I have seen positives come from talent being the nice guy and following up with a thanks. Plus, like you said, it will put you in their line of fire. And remember, some studios do work without agents and may call on talent they know, or have contact info from.

I predict you will get a "compensatory" gig from that studio in the very near future.

Lee - heh! You know what's funny? The original audition was kind of a "compensatory" thing in the first place! The studio owner missed a meeting we had set up so he threw me the audition when I wasn't originally selected Smile

I guess I've got double karma coming?

A friend of mine actually had a similar [non] session a couple of months ago via ISDN. He and the chosen VO had the same first name, but that was it.

And an agent left me a message about a gig once, only to follow up a few minutes later with an apology that it was a different Mary who got the gig.

So, these things happen Smile Doesn't make it fun though!
