I'm beginning to see a correlation with higher mouth noise in the am after I've brushed my teeth. My mouth is already it's own orchestra at times and I don't need to add to the chorus. So, hoping I'm not leaping into the TMI black hole, what toothpaste do you use and do you think it has a lower mouth noise potential? _________________ Pam Tierney

Pam, I have found with any toothpaste that I have to really really rinse my mouth after brushing. I have also started to use a mouth wash after to really clean out my mouth so I can avoid that issue.
There you go, I jumped in the TMI pool as well! |

Pam... are the mouth noises being caused by dry mouth or over active saliva glands, after you brush? _________________ "Bailey"

I Aim to rinse my mouth with Aqua, Fresh and clear. That way I can ride the Crest of excellent VO. I've found it useful to brush vigorously with my Arm, and Hammer away those germs. Although I can't see them, the Gleem in the clients' eyes is probably Ultra Brite. _________________ Jeff

Bailey I think it's from the paste coating my mouth due to not rinsing well enough. I thought maybe a gel toothpaste might work better. I'll try Zak's suggestion of really rinsing well and see what happens.
This conversation is absolutely the most riveting I've ever started. How do I do it? _________________ Pam Tierney

Pam,
I use a gel toothpaste (Colgate Total gel) and it rinses very easily. _________________ Be well,

LOL @ PB!
Pam-- I use the most heavy-duty Listerine they've got and rinse like a maniac for :30 full seconds (yes, my eyes water) after brushing, then before each audition or session. I do this all day long and go through gallons of mouthwash, but it really has helped me.
When I'm doing longform, I keep a bowl of tart green grapes, room temp, in the studio. And it helps to stay super-hydrated 24/7. _________________ the Amy Snively family of brands for all your branded thing needs.

You can tell he's English, look at his teeth. Too funny Philip.
I've actually starting using a natural toothpaste - and not using gargle in the morning- the alcohol in the mouthwash totally dried my mouth out and I sounded like I had the whole Rice Krispies gang hiding in the back of my mouth.
I've also got to remember to turn my humidifiers on and drink more water now that it's 'heating season'. _________________ Moe Egan

This may sound odd, but I have had success using olive oil to tame mouth noises. I have a Misto olive oil sprayer from Bed Bath and Beyond, and spray it in my mouth like a breath spray. I've had allergies my entire life so perhaps my smell and taste buds are compromised, but the oil doesn't bother me at all. Weird? OK, I admit it. But what works, works. _________________ I'm still...

Notice... contains Acid Inhibitor WD-9.
Ancient predecessor to WD-40. It fights cavities... frees rusty hinges...
stops squeaks... AND prevents mouth noises. _________________ "Bailey"

Philip FTW! I laughed out loud at that one!
Great info everyone. I'll give the mouthwash a try (never been a fan of the stuff but desperate measures and all that). If all else fails, I've got a few cans of WD-40 in my workbench. _________________ Pam Tierney

I've gone 'round and 'round with my hygienist about brushing in the morning.
Fact: I don't eat anything in my sleep.
Fact: Saliva actually has anti-cavity properties.
Fact: Saliva is the only thing in my mouth all night.
Ergo: Why brush in the morning?
Breath smells bad?...OK, I get using mouthwash then...but brush?...I just don't understand it.
