Did you buy it, Caryn? I looked at the specs and I see it was loaded with the 64-bit version of Windows 7. I know that 64-bit is incompatible with some audio editing software, probably some hardware drivers too. _________________ Best regards,

I'd be curious what software people have had trouble with, I have yet to find any audio software/hardware that won't run, even if it has to do so in 32-bit mode, on Windows 7 x64. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

No, I didn't buy it b/c it's stuff like that that I don't know!!!!
I definitely need a new PC and/or laptop. I've culled much info in the past few months from vo-bb friends, and now I think I have too much info! LOL!
Large purchases such as this are difficult for me. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Hey Caryn,
I just ordered one of these mainly for my wife but a good laptop for the road recording too. A pretty good deal and even has I5 core. I also just got a new micport pro to go with it and I'll be installing Audition 3.0 when it arrives. The micport sure sounds super. I was wowed by the sound.

I did a search here for "windows AND 7" and found some people having trouble. But that was mostly when 7 had just rolled out, so maybe things are better now. The opinion I expressed may have been based on dated information, so perhaps you are correct.
However, due to a motherboard short, I'm suddenly entering the world of Win 7 myself. And my audio guru just told me that 32-bit is a "more stable environment" than 64-bit, so that's what I'm going with. Besides, I don't need more than 4 gigs of RAM to do audio editing (I'll only be doing audio, MS Office work, and web on this particular PC). _________________ Best regards,

Caryn, I'm using Win7 x64, and Audition 3 runs great on my rig. I've heard the same problems about certain audio software not wanting to play nice, but I've found that just disabling on-board (built-in) audio in the BIOS settings cures like 95% of any potential wonkiness. I also run with a M-Audio Fast Track Pro, and those have native Win7 x64 drivers. Also a good thing.
That, and 32-bit OSes only have the capacity to use 3.5 GB of RAM max. Not that it might not need it, but rather the fact that mathematically, you just can't do it. A watered-down explanation, but in essence, that's the deal. _________________ Brad Venable

I had been wondering about this. My co-worker just got a new computer (win7, 64) and was having trouble, couldn't get audition 3 to work at all. Our computer guy just guessed it was an incompatability issue, but clearly that shouldn't be the case since you had it working. Then again, this is the same guy who yells at his computer screen when he gets typical spam or when a program doesn't boot up fast enough. Not exactly a diety in the technological world. |
