I have a client for IVR. Needs mulaw files. No sweat. My question is about saving mulaw files with a .v3 extension. Is he uninformed or am I ignorant? Here's some specs info from client:

Send us files in the following format:
- uLaw format (also known as G.711 format) - NOT WAV or MP3
- mono
- 8000 hz (this is absolutely critical)
- 8 bit (16 bit does not work and will sound like static)
- files should be normalized to about -12db RMS loudness
*Most of the time when the files are recorded in the proper format they will have the ending of .raw.

People often send us MP3 or WAV files. If you (or your studio) are saving files with the extension .WAV or .MP3 instead of .v3, then the files are not in the right format.

Any input about the .v3 extention? All comments are welcome. Thanks!

CC, if by chance you are using ProTools you can bounce them to that format from the edit desk.
If you are using adobe audition you can convert in there as well. (Not sure exactly how, but know it can be done.)
Here is a link that I found that may be helpful.

It is a free down load.

The file, once converted, should have that extension (.v3). I believe he is just over explaining what he needs. [/url]

Hey Zack, Thanks for your note.

Any mulaw file I've ever done has the .wav extension. I've been all over teh interwebz looking for .v3 file extensions, and can't find anything about it....

Are you saying you are familiar with this file extension?

RE: uLaw format (also known as G.711 format) - NOT WAV

Actually this IS a WAV format...but if he wants it with a .v3 extension, then rename the files with that extension.

(oh...and RE: 8 bit: u-law ia ALWAYS 8bit ) Rolls Eyes

Liz, precisely what I thought! I just wasn't sure if there was some obscure .v3 mulaw format out there.

I think the guy has probably been burned with people just changing the specs on a normal ol' WAV file and thinking it would work.
