As there's not much happening on the meet n greet VO front this year I've decided to pop along to VOX2011 which takes place on the weekend 21st May at the Hinckley Island Hotel near Leicester. Nice venue. The last time I went I had a thoroughly enjoyable time as did Deebs, Bob and a few other VO-BBers. As I'm sure they will tell you, if you're a networking, workshopping, learning, business obsessed VO this is not for you. If you like meeting other working VOs and producers with money to spend on VOs with ISDN studios BUT most important of all enjoy having a good time VOX is a great place to be. The cost is around the $220 mark which includes hotel room, dinner and breakfast plus any entertainment and other distractions. For most reading this there will be an air fare to add to the cost - ROI? Not really measureable but you may strike it lucky.
Why am I going? To spend time with friends and make a few new ones. |

I'll have to see if I can make it there this year. I did indeed have a truly wonderful time in 2009, at VOX and booked some work out of the deal, too. _________________ Be well,

It's a tempting offer, especially since I'm pretty sure I don't have any restraining orders in that neck of the woods. _________________ j.s. gilbert

I thought about going last year - til I found out you weren't going, Philip. I may just do it this year. It's been ages since I've been on your side of the pond. I can go see friends in Spain while I'm there. hmmm... |

...so.... I HOPE to be in Paris from end of April to BEGINNING of May for Easter with my mom's side of the family....
...so....do I just stay in Europe till the end of May...or come home & go back...hmmmm....yeah...not sure how THAT would go over on the home-front...considering there's another family reunion in July of dad's side of the family in Austria that I want to attend..... but I'd SO LOVE to go to VOX.....decisions....decisions..... _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Oh...FOR SURE about the family stuff.
I haven't been to Paris in almost 8 years & haven't seen most members of my dad's family in over 20! I'm in definite Europe withdrawal.
But... I can be a bit greedy, non?
Besides....I'm thinking big this year!
In all seriousness, I feel as if I am sprouting wings and am SO ready to fly. ....in ALL senses of the word _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

Two years ago I had to remind myself that the beauty of what we do for a living is that it leaves us free to do other things it DOES NOT keep us so busy we are prevented from doing other things. |

That's true, but one needs to be able to be attracting & keeping those clients that can fund that "work smarter not harder" lifestyle.
It's what I think we all work towards, and is certainly what I am working towards. You my dear Banskey, have a bit of a head start on some of us but you are a GREAT pace car! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

If Banksey, Bob, JS and Liz end up going - then I just might have to plan a trip to Europe to visit my brother in and around VOX!
Of course, then I'll have to send each of you are not going one of the final projects to grade in my Intro to VO class so that I can get that done before grades are due. _________________ Playing for a living...

Darren,
You'll want to drop a line to Layla at LBS in Manchester. She sent me a note today letting know that an email with details is going out in about 2 weeks. _________________ Be well,

Yes, I too am addicted to workahol. Me n JS could claim that most of the other people attending VOX were our grand children.
For me and Darren VOX is a punt and a fun weekend away. For those making the jump across the pond the majority of Commercial Producers you'll meet pay Equity (British Union) rates and per script that's around $33. Of course, if you meet someone who works for a national commercial station the rate per script is $900.
I know I've said this before but it's worth repeating. VOX is a fun time for VO people with the small chance of a measurable return. |
