Hi Dan,
I'd drop that short bit at the start, the two-voice piece, and the screaming bit towards the end. They're not what professional voice seekers are looking for for the most part. Your second piece is a perfect starter. From what I can guess, that's the real you. There's one piece with the dark sounding piano and if you could lower the piano volume a bit, that would be helpful.
Just add a couple of clips in styles that producers are looking for and you'll have a fairly decent demo of your work.
I'd talk to you about improving your diction, but I'm hoping you're already aware of that.

dan - i usually don't venture too far into the critique area of the farm - but i DO like your natural voice. i think you should showcase it more on your demo. i think you know the bits i mean. you've got a great "every man" sound, kind of a baritone tom bodett ... i'd work on that. also, what bruce said about diction. if i had one word to give you it would be "enunciate". _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Hmmmm, sort of the same response as found here:

I see some consistency in the excellent feedback you're being given on these two forums. Take it, absorb it, and work with it. Best wishes! _________________ Scott R. Pollak

It might be awesome, but I'll never know because I couldn't get past the slurred "Hey everybody..." part.
As far as I'm concerned, you might as well have said "Check it out! I just got my first microphone!"

Thank you everyone for the input and advice. I just got the demo back and was told this was the final mix unless I want any changes which I do.
I was not to thrilled with the production side of it. All the music seemed to loud for me and my voice got lost in the mix also on a couple of spots. The levels were not even sounding throughout some louder some softer. It seems there is going to be lot of work yet to get this done right and maybe do some retakes.
I do appreciate all the great advice from everyone on this forum Thanks again and feel free to add anything else that you might think of. |

What do you think?
Technically, the demo is weak.
You're not ready. The only chance you have now, is for a guy next door type.
Like someone said Tom Bodett. You have a very stylized accent. It could work well on certain projects.
You're not going to get trailer, announcer type work. But, you could develop your natural style and accent into something unique. Otherwise, you need speech coaching and lots of practice.
Honesty is the best policy in this case. There's too much competition.
But, I'm right on 60% of the time. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |
