A while back Melissa Ex put out a call for volunteers to read major newspapers and popular magazines for an Internet radio station for the sight impaired, Gatewave.org. They were kind enough to choose me as a narrator and I'm now reading an hour a week from two popular men's magazines, Esquire and GQ. We're calling it "The Y Chromosome" and new episodes run on Mondays with repeats during the week. Since it's not a public station (yet), you have to enroll to get access, we're not censoring anything either. Cool.

Anyway, if you know a sight impaired person Gatewave seems like a valuable resource, and if you have some time to donate, I feel it's a rewarding thing to do with your talents.

Bruce, thank you for reminding about this. I volunteered but then didn't follow up. On the to-do list right now!!!

My last contact with Gail Starkey was in October after I filled out the volunteer submission sheet on-line. Nothing yet...but I still think Gateway is doing a good service.

Thanks for the note here Bruce - btw - Gail thinks you're awesome.
Jim, don't worry. She's been under the gun with a lot of things lately and trying to ramp everything up to 24 hours again without the need for many repeats, but needs to get things in place first. Trust me, she'll get in touch!

Thanks to everyone who's volunteered for the service. It's a much needed service and it's a great way of giving something back if you're so inclined. I'd been doing "The Week". I'll be starting a new show " America Past and Present" shortly.

thanks again!

I think a polite email reminding her of your continued interest will help. It's a big project and she's pedaling as fast as she can.

Bruce is right, anyone who's been waiting to hear back from her should shoot her another email. She's really been snowed under - a reminder can't hurt.

Funny - she called me the same day I posted my note here...
We've worked out what program I'll be doing, and I'm expecting magazines and written instructions in the mail any time now.
Looking forward to getting started - great way to help out, and I will benefit as well by increasing my stamina for longer reads.
Thank you Melissa for putting out the call - Gail has been nothing but professional, kind and straight-forward about the history and needs of the program.
