I'm getting ready to travel and don't want to bring my Neumann on the road, so I just purchased the AT2020 usb and it sounds harsh. Too crisp. Reminds me of the Snowball and the Samson CO1U, both of which I don't like. I also hear a hiss in the background, and I was astonished because I did the trial recording in my booth. The side by side comparison to the Neumann is too different. I have the AT2020 audio setting in Windows audio on high. Wondering if it'll help to turn that down? I've heard the AT2020 is supposed to sound really close to the TLM 102, but not in my universe. Any suggestions?

I'm using Win XP SP 3

Wow— I LOVED the sound of the 2020 when I did a bit of a short AT shoot-out at the NAMM show.

Methinks there's something amiss in the signal chain.

I'm going to mess around with the Win audio input setting, and turn it down a bit, and then use Audition to turn up after recording.

I agree with DB. That's a cool mic. No noise here! Smile

If you're using audition, grab ASIO4ALL. The windows drivers are meh.

Hi Bobbin -- two thumbs up on ASIO4ALL... I had the same issue with AT2020 USB via AA3 into Samsung Q320 for on-the-road gear... Asio4all cleared it up very nicely..

Just FYI, the Samsung has a silent mode: -65 noise level with mic less than a foot away.. Sweet!

Hope this helps...
