Looks great. Any idea if FFMPEG converts the "lovely" &$&##^ MOD files that JVC uses?

I don't know about MOD files, but I personally love VirtualDub and AVISynth. They're not for the faint of heart, but you can do some remarkable stuff with them.

i've never had to try it - but it looks like this would work ...

1. Rename all the .mod to .mpeg and change the extension when prompted.
2. Download ffMpegX and the necessary binaries
3. Open up ffMpegX and open the first .mpeg file. Convert this to a .MOV, .DV, .AVi file or whatever format you need.
4. Repeat as necessary for all your .MPEG files.

Thanks Todd. I'll try that out. Doing basic file extension renaming doesn't work with some convertors. I mean..it works, but editors like Premiere won't accept the format for some reason. Actually, just after I posted that last night, I was successful with Adobe Bridge for changing file extensions (No idea why it would be any different to doing it manaually)

+1 for VirtualDub. I've used that to fix files that with corrupt headers and files which were too large for XP file system. Something that no paid-for program is able to do!

If you have the heart for some scripting, AVISynth is great too, because it can be a frameserver, so you can work with absolutely massive files and not worry about sizes.

At the risk of shameless self-promotion, I assembled this video entirely with AVISynth (90%) and VirtualDub (audio and final encoding)- it's amazing what you can do with free tools, some patience (and in my case, a lot of coffee). The actual frames (Targa files) were generated from within the game using scripting, and I then assembled it with AVISynth and mastered it in VirtualDub.

WARNING: NSFW LANGUAGE. This is a machinima of a scene from Pulp Fiction using characters from a game called Team Fortress 2.

AVISynth is way over my head. I just checked and its one of those aHobo Tounges thats been on my PC for ages and I've never gotten around to learning (The problem with working with freeware; getting loads of little aHobo Tounges to do every thing you need and then getting lost in the information overload)

That is a cool video!

I live by MPEG Streamclip for Windows and Mac. Free, powerful. Mark In/Out points and ouput in an amazing range of formats.
