Hi all,
I've been talking to this guy from Japan about possibly buying this product called "Voice Make". Has anyone ever heard anything about this item (positive or negative)? I just really want to know how effective "Voice Make" really is and if it's worth it (not all that pricey only like $30-$40 to get it shipped from Japan). The following is what he wrote when I asked him to describe how this item works:
"Voice Make will train your lips, cheek muscle, tongue and throat to make your voice/pronunciation as clear as possible. By reading or singing while chewing this with your back teeth, vertically or horizontally, closing or opening your lips, your throat will open up and the elements in/around your mouth will move much smoother. By using Voice Make, your face will look more fit/lifted which is a great side-effect for women.Try chewing something 0.5cm-1cm thick item with your back teeth and simulate how it works! (width should be the length between right back teeth to left back teeth) If you can find a substitutable item, you may not need to purchase Voice Make after all!" |

I have no experience with this product. However - the description you posted sets off my bullsh!t detector for sure.
If you want to improve your pronunciation, practice reading aloud. Even better, record yourself and listen back so you can critique it. And if you need to learn to open or relax your throat, you are probably better off to work in person with a vocal coach or voice teacher.
Caveat emptor!

Hasn't done a thing for my voiceover career but it did knock 5 strokes off my golf game.
(Full disclosure: that was a joke. I've actually never heard of this thing before.) _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Sounds good. Just attach a rope to it, place device over back teeth , have someone pull on rope and say "Giddyap!"
You may, however, experience a strong desire for oats and sugar cubes. |

Get a cork from a wine bottle. Then clamp down on it with your front teeth. Read a passage, script, or article aloud. Then remove the cork and read it again. Instant, improved annunciation!
You can get a cork for the same price or less of that thingamajig; Plus, it comes with wine! Win win!

You can also accomplish the same thing by taking a pencil and placing it horizontally between your teeth and then reading copy out loud, over-enunciating.
You're welcome.
