The NHL playoffs start tonight and I will root for the Vancouver Canucks here in British Columbia to win the Stanley Cup!
Weigh in with your predictions here
I'll actually be getting my picture taken with the Cup here in Kelowna on April 26.
Meanwhile, Gary Bender calls his final game tonight after 18 seasons with the Phoenix Suns.
He spent 45 years in broadcasting and called 27 sports. A link to Gary's career reflections and
a little hockey play-by-play with peanut butter (yes, you read that right) on my blog today:

Are you familiar with a man by the name of Keith Matthews? He was a sports writer for the Vancouver Sun for many years and called many local games, although not sure if he did any hockey games. He may pre-date your knowledge of him, but just thought I'd ask. _________________ "Wherever you are -- if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time." Had not heard that name before Lynne and a google search shows he finished in the Vancouver newspaper market in the mid-60's. That was before my time...
Three California teams are in the NHL playoffs for the first time. Are you rooting for one?

Yes, as I said, he may pre-date you. He was my dad. I knew him from the age of 0-5, then we re-connected about forty years later. We had a wonderful, prolonged, few years together before he passed away. He told me many stories of the sports milieu that he frequented, both in the Vancouver area and national level. Just thought it would be a huge coincidence if you actually knew of him.
Unfortunately, I don't follow hockey (I know that is a slap in the face to my Canadian citizenship responsibilities). But, I hear that some of them quack!
