here's the deal - a friend & i have been doing a lot of video work together over the past 6 months and it doesn't look like it's slowing down any SO we've decided to firm things up, make it legal & form a partnership. all the boring stuff is taken care of and we THOUGHT we had a name picked out ---

the one we originally liked was : Cache Media Group - Cache like the swamp here in lovely southern illinois --- problem is when you SAY it to someone they automatically think "cash" which seems, well ... crass. also spelling issues with the domain name.

our next in line is "Big Muddy Media" after two rivers in the region - one being the actual big muddy river and the other, of course, the mississippi.

the point of this diatribe is - ANYBODY see anything wrong with big muddy media? i'm just too close to it now.

Well...doesn't sound bad, but I would associate the word "muddy" as muddy sounding, not clean, etc. But, if people around that region will know what it's referring to (the big muddy river nearby), than it's probably fine

Just my 2 cents Smile

Could maybe go with Caches Media Group (like Cache's...no appostrophe). This way it still references the swamp, but doesn't sound like "cash"??

EDIT:

BTW: cachesmediagroup.com is available Laugh The domain anyway...would still need to look and see if any similar company already has that name somewhere

I was going to suggest getting out of the muddy water and try Still Waters Media... but I see it's taken.
And then there's Deep Water Media... taken too.
How about ... Swamp Thing Media?

The real question is: "What are you selling (or providing) customers"?

Bothbusiness names you are contemplating have "media" involved, but what do you mean by "media" . In my humble opinion; a collaboration - turned business' - name should reflect what services or products are going to be provided.

If you plan to stay local or very small regional, with a small customer base, with minimal foresight into area needs; then by all means use a common locally oriented moniker. If you have dreams of a larger reach or markets - then choose your title and businessname to reflect those aspirations.

Good luck!

thanks guys -

1. sylvester stallone as the intellectual cop --- classic!

2. frank - the local thing is why we dumped "cache" too much confusion for folks who don't live here. we DO want to reference our history in some way, though. i'm starting to think maybe "big muddy" does that.

one early thought was something around "copperhead" - folks in this area during the civil war MOSTLY supported the south, even though illinois was a union state, and were referred to as "copperheads". but, again, most won't get that - they'll just think we're snakes.

I Googled "Great American Video Company" in quotes and there were zero entries that matched. Also did a WhoIs search for greatamericanvideocompany.com and no one has it yet.

Marketing slogan: "We're really quite good at what we do here in Illinois. Watch us and use us while we grow into our name!"

I agree.

I also like Muddy Waters Media, which is even closer, but as the Chicago blues great has been dead almost 30 years, and if you post a disclaimer that there is no connection with the guitarist, that you are downstate, a geographical explanation, etc. and maybe even a nice descriptive logo, you would probably be alright. Real catchy.

OTOH I am not a lawyer ...

Muddy Waters Media is a fantastic name (MWM) - you don't even need to produce a signal video, just release DVD's with the name on it.

How about Two Rivers Media?

Most of the small media houses around here call themselves "Production" "Big Dog Productions," There was even a "Waffle House Productions" at one time--- it now seems to be a Rap record label now.
