It's that time of year again,..when may of us, myself included deal with the sneezing, stuffy nose, and post-nasal drip that wreak havoc with our voices..So how do you deal with it? Claratin? Allegra?..home remedy?

The Neti Pot or Rhino Horn nasal irrigator is a fave around here.

Here are a bunch of links to posts that discuss this scourge.

Nasal irrigation tip for a water pik and Allegra as needed. High efficiency air filters in HVAC system. Most furnace / AC filters only remove large particles to protect the mechanical system not allergens which are much smaller.

There are several antihistamines out there under various brand and generic names. Most will make you sleepy or do not much at all for you. But there's probably one that will work. It's just trial and error to see which is best for you. Chlortrimeton (and it's generic) seem to offer the best relief and lowest drowsy effects for me. I also use salt water nasal spray and allergy relief eye drops when needed.

Thank heavens for FLONASE. An antihistamine/steroid sinus spray that takes away the bulk of my yearly suffering. Pollen is my enemy and flonase along with an occasional dowsing with the sinus rinse dose the trick! Smile

Good luck everybody!

With me, it's not just sinus congestion, it gets in my throat, making me sound gravelly, with an occasional "Peter Brady" squeak,..I'll try some Mucinex & see if that helps..

Don't the bees get kind of pissy when you try to scrape it off their legs?

That bee pollen thing works if you're not allergic to bees in any way.

I'm neither here nor there on the bee pollen business, but I've run into many folks over the years that swear you can build a resistance to local allergens by eating honey made from bees that live in your area and use the local pollens in their "manufacturing" process.

Know thy enemy, and then eat it.

Watch out for the Mucinex stuff— it made me lose my voice on 2 occasions.

Never touch it any more.

Mucinex works wonders for me. Dry weather here in SoCal in some seasons is very hard on my sinuses and leads to sinus infections. Nasal irrigation and Mucinex have done wonders. Great ENT suggested it.

Claritin which many swear by and it is not supposed to make one drowsy leaves me feeling foggy headed and hung over the next day.

Each person needs to find what works for them. YMMV

Not a big fan of antihistamines because they make me drowsy or generally don't work (Claritin). I've had the most success with a neti pot and immediately showering after mowing, working in the yard, etc.
