Hi gang! I just saw that a video that I narrated has been posted to Youtube and my narration audio sounds like crap! Any ideas why that is? I sent them a very clean wav file. How disappointing.

So much for linking it to my website.....
Thanks. |

Well there are a couple of reasons right off the bat... One) the compression level used was maximized by the YouTube compression. Two) Did you notice the music was not compressed? This tells me you may have under-mixed the music to VO levels.
There are several other reasons for this situation, but these are the top two.
Is there a way to change this before it becomes permanent? If so re-mix, use no compression and do a trial YouTube compression mix at your studio prior to sending the next version.
Good luck.

Thanks for your input Frank. Unfortunately, I only supplied the narration audio and they added the music and all other production to the video.
I've emailed them to see if they'd send me a dvd copy in hopes of better audio quality. I even offered to pay for the shipping. ...but I'll wait and see.
Thanks again. |

Good luck. I would also check to what kind of ear the video guy uses to mix audio... "they see but the cannot hear".
My guess is he/she used the old technique of "drop this in and that should match, shouldn't it"?

That's a shame. The narration is good. Your voice is distorted, the music is not. Totally the video editors work.
The only thing you can do, in the future, is to send video VO at -9 db peaks maximum. Better too low than too high. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

if you want it for your reel you could always pull the video from youtube, find some similar music and re-mix it yourself. i have had to do that in a similar situation. the video won't be much good (quality-wise) outside a web application, but it should work fine in a demo-size player. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

What a terrible thing to do to your narration. Methinks not all the Brazil nuts are in the trees.
What Todd said. Download, re-mix, and post it yourself. It will be a very nice demo piece for you.

Ask them to send you a link to the video on the web before it was uploaded to youtube. You can download it and save it.
It may be better quality. |
