It is really hard for me to believe, but we are finally almost there! After months of searching and seller negotiations and some truly annoying contractors (plus a few really great ones), and after many days of madly productive de-crapification of our Seattle residence, we are imminently headed to Portland with only the stuff that we really want to keep. YAY!
Packing up all the stuff still left in the house tomorrow (with help, thank heavens!)
Movers are loading up the truck on Friday
Our stuff will be delivered to our Portland house on Saturday.
Only 2 more nights of hotels and one foot in each city. I can hardly believe it!
All this activity this summer plus having a newborn has sort of put me off my intended VO timeline. Some intended milestones crashed and burned. But it's ok. Things are still moving along, and I did manage to snag a couple more lessons with Nancy W earlier this month. If things go as I think they might with timing and the 5 or 6 remaining lessons we have, I hope I can be ready to cut a commercial demo with her by November. That would make me very happy.
Of course, that will put other stuff, like making sure my recording setup in the new house is at least audition quality, on the front burner... but that's a good problem to have.
Maybe I can convince my husband that we should help break in the new grill this fall by hosting a little Portland VO party. I would love to meet folks. And I have a feeling he wouldn't work too hard to make excuses to use his shiny, new toy.

Well Howdy Jenn. I'm sure you will find Portland a friendly and welcoming place to ply the mic. Let me know if you'd like to grab a drink sometime. We have had several impromptu VO meet Ups and a group that meets from time to time called Vox on the Rocks, managed by Kevin Cooke. One of the many fine Vo's in the area.
Again welcome and see you soon. Safe travels.
SamA
P.S. Happy to let you use my studio for auditions until yours is up and running. I'm in DE right now, but back next week. |

So exciting!! Congrats and good luck on your new adventure...Portland sounds like an awesome place to live and work. A friend of my hubby's moved out there a few years ago (from PA) and absolutely loves it.

Definitely get in touch when you're ready, Jen.
Funny though, I'm definitely getting reinforcement for the old saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" as I meet long-time Portlanders. There are quite a few I've met that can't wait to leave here, even a couple who thought Phoenix would be a great place to land! Well, whatever makes you happy....
Oh, and Phoenix got an inch of rain a couple of nights ago...in less than an hour, boom! That's one out of the seven inches they'll get all year.

Thanks, you guys! So far, so good. Just up for a tiny bit of air here.
Sam, very kind of you, thank you! I'll keep this in mind for sure. My husband also is a PA native - Eastern, though, near Gettysburg.
Bruce, yes, I'll be in touch when things seem sane.
Back to it - we'll be on the road soon!!
