Anyone using this pre for VO? I couldn't find any related posts here. With the strong yen and an annual attack of gear-itus, I'm thinking about a major upgrade. I have the GAP73 for warm, thick... and the Speck 5.0 for 'clean' right now. Speck almost seems 'hissy' at times. Could be my mic technique.

Better headroom, more of a large/clear sound...a SLIGHT softening effect
compared to something "reference" like a GML but nothing easy to hear. Many VO guys using the MSS-10, for sure. |

I believe there is a VO guy named Rick Riley who is using that pre with a Sennheiser 416 and sounding pretty good with it too I might add. |

Thanks! Yeah, I've seen some of his posts on Voice123 and elsewhere. Found his website and sent an inquiry. I'll report back! _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

This in from Rick:
Quote: | After using the Martech for almost a year, I wouldn't use any other pre.
If you look at the feedback I get on Voices.com, you'll see a variety of
clients compliment my audio. I'm using an Mbox 2 Mini, for cryin out loud.
Which, by the way, my Mbox 3 Pro will be here tomorrow.
Regardless, I have audio running on the major TV networks, all forms of
radio, internet and I've even done two films, and nobody has tweeked my
audio [that I know of] one bit.
I use the Martech into a dbx 1066 with about 2 1/2 to 1 compression, just to
smooth it out.
I've done side by side with Neve and Avalon next to the Martech [before I
bought anything, so I wasn't biased] and the Martech was, IMO, a cut above
both of them and they are no slouches in their own right.
Is that enough testimonial? |

Chuck,
Spoken like a true fellow gearhead, my friend. But I can assure you I am
quite content and more than well-equipped with my current overabundance
of gear.
But I do appreciate the suggestion ( though my wife may not) |

Would Mercenary let you check out the Martech and also, say, a John Hardy M1 and then send the "loser" back? _________________ Best regards,

There's a standard 30 day return policy and a double warranty on the Martech. I'll ask about the M1...but it has only one balanced output. I prefer pres with a couple outputs so I can plug in a headphone amp, as I don't use a separate mixer. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

Well golly then, I may try both of them out later this year. I've scaled back my gear-itis a bit, but it'll never go away entirely. It's too much fun. And as long as I can re-sell what I don't want to keep at reasonable prices (easy to do if I buy used), then it isn't crazy expensive. _________________ Best regards,
