Has anyone else found that anglepoise mic stands display the most annoying habit of ringing? I guess it's the springs. I love the flexibilty of an anglepoise, but as yet I haven't found one without a rather disgusting resonance.

Just wondered if anyone had found the same thing or if there was a really good one out there that works?

As an asie, how about goosenecks? Anyone tried one that stays put and can hold a large mic?

Thanks friends

I've suffered with the springs ringing as well. I've stopped using the stand now, but found that the only way to stop it ringing completely was to wrap the external springs small hand-towels! ... actually, the first attempts was with old t-shirts!

More recently, I had real problems with a metal lampshade (now consigned to elsewhere in the house). Constantly clap-testing the room has really paid dividends... metal waste bins and all sorts of other stuff that finds it's way in can really cause problems.

I've had some small success with a six-inch gooseneck, but when I tried a twelve-incher, it just could not support any weight without sagging. I did try the same arrangement with my boy's SM58 and it seemed to work OK, but that mic is really quite light...

Cheers
Peter

Yep they do do that, just like a spring reverb.

Make felt slip covers for them.

Here's one DB suggested to me over a year ago. I bought it and must say its worked out very well. The "springs" are actually "coils" - not visible, and totally silent.

That looks like just the ticket!

I'd considered wrapping the springs but that stand looks like a far more elegant solution.

Let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the tips friends.

http://www.micsdirect.net/

They appear to be out of stock of the Rode but the Heil PL T2 looks identical to me except it's 20 quid more.

Hope pic helps, mine in situ, well, in studio to be exact

Thanks Philip! I don't see any springs so I guess it's a non ringer - yes?
