The reference to lard in the ad agency bit reminded me of a memorable sight of mine from the 70's. Remember how grocery stores would often feature a certain product by building a pyramid of it, sometimes several feet high, on the floor? During my first radio job in Winslow, Arizona (right on the edge of the Navajo reservation) they built one of these displays out of 1 and 5 gallon tubs of lard. Lard was a staple of the Navajo diet, but it was still quite odd to see....that.
Another memory from that time: doing a live remote from the grand opening of a new farm-oriented general store and giving away a live lamb every hour on the hour. Ya gotta know your audience demographics to succeed.
