Thanks everybody for your help in advance
I was able to get the Shure localy then I was looking at the micport pro again and not sure if I made the right choice.

I have about 12 days left I can return the Shure just not sure (ok forget the pun) if it's worth the difrence in price I got the Shure for 99 buck and the micport is around 150. Help I have so much on my mind right now it's hard to think but want to make the right choice.

I sent Bill Ratner to Europe with an X2u and a 416.
He's happy, and I found it to work fine.
It's built pretty well, and sounds good. The little dials are annoying, my only gripe. Send me a sample to hear with your mic.

I've yet to do a side-by-side comparison of the sound quality.
The Shure is cool because of the monitor mix control, a built like a tank design, better USB connector, and level indicator. Plus it never needs a driver since it maxes out at 48K, while the MicPort has better A/D and preamp and can do 96k.

Heck, get 'em both and keep one as a backup!

- cause mine crapped out - but can get the Shure locally today instead of waiting til Sunday to get another m Hobo Tounge

Don't quite know how to describe it d3. Sometimes it records gibberish. Other times it plays back gibberish but if I listen through the laptop speakers it sounds fine - so I'm guessing the headphone input crapped out. Although if unplug it and plug it back in and play again it sounds fine. If by chance I happen to have the headphone potted up while recording it records gibberish.
It also frustrates me because I have to pot it up fairly high to get a good level so when I play back - and it doesn't play gibberish - it sounds like the noise floor is super high - THEN what I do is send a sample to someone - like one of you guys - in a 'real' studio (I only use this w/ my laptop when I travel) and invariably they come back and say it sounds great. But the whole thing is time consuming and frustrating.

I've compared the M Hobo Tounge

and the X2u. To my ears, the M Hobo Tounge

is a good bit quieter. Or at least the one I got was. As George says, the X2u has superior industrial design and handy additional features. But it's all about the sound. And while there are a lot of things to like about the Shure, for my money, the M Hobo Tounge

is still on top.

Full disclosure: I'm a CEntrance "Featured Artist." Which only means I was willing to say nice things about the M Hobo Tounge

on the CEntrance website without any sort of compensation. My head-to-head with the two products came before the freebie endorsement.

BTW, a while back, I put a bug in CEntrance's ear about redesigning the M Hobo Tounge

to add more of the good points of the Shure. No official word from inside, though I suspect the CE Skunkworks may release a rev2 M Hobo Tounge

at some point..

A question from the peanut gallery!

Why does the Shure X2u advertise... "Any mic. Any time. Any where."
And then advertise... "The X2u adapter lets you record on-the-go with any Shure mic."

So is it Any mic, or any Shure mic?
Technical wording confuses me at times.

Any mic with enough output, it's lousy with dynamics for VO.
Best with a hot condenser, like a 416.
I was a dealer for CEntrance, sold 50+ units in 2009. Told them it was time to upgrade the design back then, still no changes. They seem distracted with selling DAC's to audiophiles. Perhaps an iPad compatible version is also keeping them busy...
The M Hobo Tounge

has superior fidelity, and like the knobs better, but Shure has other advantages and feels better made. Only time will tell with the Shure... I've known many to have gone through their first M Hobo Tounge

, just not made for heavy, long-term use. Also less confusing for technical neophytes since it will only do 44/48K, instead of the default 96Khz sample rate of the M Hobo Tounge

ex, i've had similar problems with the m Hobo Tounge

. and if i forget to reset the sample rate to 44,1, the recording goes nuts (of course).
the headphone input seems like it's on its way out, as i, too, must unplug/replug. and the usb cable connection to the device is loose; sometimes if i touch the device or either cable, it loses its usb connection, but it comes back on with another jiggle.
the phantom power light comes on and goes off at times, too, which is problematic since i have to reset (depending on the mic) and then, the m Hobo Tounge

may lose its usb connection. and so on and so on and so on.
and, if i have adobe audition open when that happens, i must close the program ... if i can. aa sometimes freezes if i beglect to close the program before resetting the phantom power or cable connection.

i must say, i got it several years ago so it's actually a marvel how well it continues to work. this was first for my mobile rig and then my workaround when i moved the studio a year ago. still using it exclusively. with various other issues cropping up -- from mackie to monitors -- the m Hobo Tounge

still is my best option among all the equipment i own ...
