This has more than likely come up before, so apologies, but I seem to be experiencing a fair amount of mouth noise in the booth, like a dryness. On the wave form, I can see it as a stright line. This causes me to spend un-necessary time editing it out and is a pain in the arse!
I, like many of you start the day with a coffee, but I don't drink it all day when I record and drink LOTS of water throughout the day, so why am I getting these annoying mouth clicks?
Do any of you experience them? Have you in the past and have remedied them? Why doesn't water solve the issue? _________________ https://www.darrenaltman.com/

Hi Darren.
One of my VO buddies swears by sipping apple juice while recording to keep her mouth nicely lubed.
I haven't tried it yet, (not her mouth, the juice!)though I probably should(not her mouth, the juice).
Good Luck! |

They're not for everyone, but if you like and can track down some salty liquorice lozenges (the hardcore, European stuff) then you may find that they help a whole heap! _________________ www.mattcowlrick.com |

Really tart apples, like green Granny Smith apples, seem to cut the "smacks" for many. It must be the acidity plus the physical scrubbing of a well masticated McIntosh.
Also, my understanding is that the water you drink can take as long as 60 minutes to get into your bloodstream and then back to moistening your mouth. So sips you take during sessions can feel good, but it's the water you drink throughout the day that keeps the moneymaker lubricated.

I get wildly sharp clicks with certain sound combinations, and for me, it's because of an air pocket that forms under my tongue. There's not a lot I can do about it but try to suck all the spit out of my mouth and try again, orsuck it up and edit out the spike.
I've used alum from time to time, but that's only a temporary fix. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Good for you for caring enough to take it out. It drives me crazy to hear it in people's demos! I had a session the other day, unexpectedly, and the request came in while I was eating lasagna. I didn't have apples but I did have fresh crandberries. The tart took out a lot of the cheese squeeze. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

I get some sort of glottal click; maybe something with my soft palate. Highly annoying, but I've developed technique to avoid it most of the time. It's one of those things that until I did a lot of time behind a mic was unaware I did at all.
I also used to click my teeth together after certain phrases or words. Never heard it or noticed it until I was listening to something I recorded and was going crazy trying to figure out the origin. Again, got rid of it with technique.
For mouth noise, I usually eat some apple if it's available, drink plenty of water, and quite often have some chamomile or mint tea with just a few drops of lemon juice sitting near to hand for sipping. Works wonders for me. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Yep - just grab an tart you can mate....
Failing that, a bit of downward expansion carefully set may cover your inter words clicks |

Also be aware that sinus clicks can sound just like mouth clicks, and look identical on the wave form. For that, Neti Pot and massaging the sides of the nose usually can free things up in a matter of minutes. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

mouth noises have been driving me batty and have me working much more at editing since lio was born 2 1/2 years ago. i never had an issue to that point. wondering if any ladies can speak (ha ha) to that? i know mandy agrees, as we exchanged PMs about this a couple of years ago.

Just to provide some balance here as well - since we haven't heard a sample of your mouth noises; Sometimes I can become an extreme editor - to the point that I want to get rid of just about every mouth noise - even ones that really would not have been distracting to the average listener. Therefore, I've learned to step back a little and realize that part of the beauty of our speech is the imperfections.
In short, if it's not a loud click or pop, then just leave it alone and let it live.

true that, anthony, because "overediting" can make the whole thing sound muy malo. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!
