VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

I'm pretty sure I damaged the capsule on mine... anyone ever sent a 416 back to Sennheiser for repair? If so, about how much should I expect it to cost? The guy on the phone said he couldn't really give me an estimate before they see the mic.

I would say that they would have to look at it, and then would wait for your express approval before actually doing the repairs.

That way if it makes more sense to just get a new one versus repairing the existing one, they would just send it back to you.

Not sure on this, but that's how it was basically handled with me when I was getting a Microtech Gefell mic repaired. Different company, I know but
I'm betting they follow a similar procedure.

Then again I've heard that Sennheiser will sometimes just send you a new one, if you bought it new---sometimes even when it is out of warranty. But as always YMMV

Oh, I understand why they can't give an blind estimate. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure of what I can expect. I went ahead and bought a new one, I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth sending the damaged one in right now, and I'd rather be able to make that determination prior to paying shipping and a diagnostic fee (I'm 99.9% it needs a new capsule). The possibility of them just sending a new one is pretty intriguing though!

My guesstimate for repair is $300

Chuck Davis just had his 415 worked on as Sennheiser is just down the road from him. You might check him out.

My repair was just $90, but it took them 3+ weeks. I have no idea what they did but it went from not working to working.
