With regard to marketing, this is something that – to me – has been a no-brainer. Like wearing so much cologne or perfume that wallpaper begins to peel, what we consider 'good things' can indeed be done to excess and have an effect opposite to what was intended.
In her blog, Marice Tobias reminds us that too much is simply too much. _________________ Mike

thanks for the link, mike. i'd missed this one. it does comfort me somewhat, in that i'm unlikely to ever be accused of over-marketing.
judging from marice's analysis, maybe that's why i don't hear from those producers as often as i'd wish: by my scarcity, they have grown to believe i'm just too busy (all the time) to take on their work??? _________________ rowell gormon

As with anything that pertains to marketing.... timing, placement, and relevance are key above all.... _________________ Don Brookshire

I must admit, when DW answers the phone for me when I'm busy (out walking the dog, taking a nap, etc.) there does seem to be a different tone to return calls. "Your receptionist told me...", "If you can squeeze this into your schedule...".
Now, if I can just answer the phone in a foreign accent and say, "the entire staff is in a planning meeting with Mr. Miles right now, but I'll have one of his booking agents call you shortly.....No, I am the pastry chef in the employee bistro.

Good stuff from M.T.
Am I the only one, or does anything else experience extreme visual distortion after reading one of Marice's posts? When I flipped back to the VOBB, all the text seemed to have black shadows around it....my eyes hurt _________________ Adam

I don't know... I bailed after one and a half paragraphs
first marketing strategy should be to find a type/background color combo that doesn't cross the eyes of your reader. |

I recently installed Evernote Clearly (a Chrome extension), which does wonders for reading articles of various types. It strips away all the extraneous stuff (headers, sidebars, ads, etc) and presents the main article on its own in a layout, typeface, and color scheme that *I* can choose. Simply brilliant.
