Getting werid noises from my my U87ai recently...not constantly but often enough. I tried two preamps and same noise so it's likely the mic or cables or something else. Any ideas? Thx!
Sounds like a scratchy phonograph record:

Will try switching in a different mic later tonight... _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

There's an a for that... called sending it back to Neuman. To me it sounds as though you have some electronics (capacitor, resistor) issues inside the mic... but I could be wrong.

I had my U87ai overhauled back in 2007...maybe it's time again. Will check with the local service point. Last time they said they didn't normally assist 'end-users'...hm. What's an end-user supposed to do?
The TLM103 seems to be working fine...no funny noises. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |

I suggest you talk with Neuman specifically. Their policy is to make things right, unless they have just recently changed that policy in the last six months.

Neumann's service center in Tokyo is Electori...they're gonna overhaul the mic for around $300.00. Hard to get anything done for free here...I bought the mic used five years ago. It'll be ready in a week and I hope it takes care of the problem. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en

/congratulations on going for the Gold with Neuman. It may seem a bit pricy, but you do not want a plumber to be your brain surgeon

Got it back good as new and in less that a week! There was a problem with some capacitors and the capsule was dusty. The fixed all that and removed a small ding...and it sounds better than ever. Cost me $250. Not bad. _________________ www.chriskoprowski.com/en |
