I bought a few cheap mic leads a few years ago and they are giving out now.
Can anyone recommend a good value for money brand? i.e. NO monster cable (LOL) or someone who makes cables?
Thanks _________________ Thomas Bromhead

Cheap mic cables are the surest way to introduce unwanted noise into your signal chain. Spend a little more and reap the benefits. Mogami at the very least. _________________ Don Brookshire

Don is right.
Cables are the cause of the problem a huge amount of the time.
Not the best place to save a few bucks. Would I put it ahead of other important things in the signal chain? Maybe. _________________ There are rules to the Universe. Learn them and prosper. www.HumbleVoiceover.com |

Sorry, I mustn't have been clear. I am not looking for cheap cables, I am looking for some good quality/reasonably priced spare cables for travelling etc.
I have gold plated, quad shields for home, but can't remember where I bought them, so looking for some recommendations.
Thanks! _________________ Thomas Bromhead

Check out Rapco's RoadHog series cables. They are awesome, and carry the same warranty as Monster Cable!
As for Mogami, wire is wire (I didn't say all cable are the same). The real difference in good cables is build quality. The Roadhog cables have 24 gauge pure copper wire (so do mogami), they utilize served pure copper shielding (same as mogami), and use neutrik jacks with gold plated pins.
The big difference, Mogami 25' xlr - $70, Rapco's Roadhog 25' xlr - $21.
Cheap isn't usually better, but a name can cost a lot when all things are equal. Mogami is still a great cable though! |

I've pasted below a bit of a thread I started at the gearsz.com equipment bulletin board when I had a similar question. Lew at Gotham Audio is awesome. Highly recommended, and the cables are very, very inexpensive.

Thanks to all for your suggested solutions. I've completely resolved the RFI issue, and thought I'd post my solutions should they turn out useful for others - of course YMMV.
First, based on Kiwi's post, I called up Gotham Audio and spoke with Lew Frisch. He is a stand-up guy, who offered a money-back guarantee that his GAC-3 cable would solve the RF problem. He also customized the cable using the"Klaus Heyne Grounding Configuration". There is an article posted on his website as to why this works ... I'll let you do the reading. The cable was inexpensive - $39.00. As I told Lew I would have paid twice the price without hesitating.
And based on comments from Jim Williams and DCtoDaylight, I ordered those ferrite beads from Mouser. Can't remember the exact model number, but they were under a dollar each. Snapped one at each end of the GAC-3 cable.
Voila, problem solved! Dead quiet. Again, thank you.

I love Rapco stuff, I have them build my custom snakes. Fast good and very affordable.
I have Roadhog cables in bought in 1999 still going strong, zero failure rate. Gtham is stellar, too. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

MonoPrice for all your cables!
I love their "Premier Series" gold-plated XLR 16 AWG stuff. They've never let me down and have a nice solid "feel" to them... plus, they're very reasonably priced. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish
