Advice needed.

Am re-working my website and looking for a replacement for my java-based demo players. I want to avoid the flash problem with devices which won't recognize it.

Looking for a fast-loading/playing element. The player does not need to be a fixture on my site page (like the soundcloud waveform graphic). A pop-up player would be quite acceptable and free up some of the real estate on the page. My web guy is not expert at html5, but I notice several sites which pop up a windows media player (on my computer) and play an mp3 instantly. Not sure what these are using.

I'm not terribly computer savvy, but would appreciate recommendations.

I use the JW Player from Longtail. It's Flash when Flash is available and HTML5 when it's not. Best of all, it's easy to set up (relatively).

It does, however, cost (I think) $79. For me, ease of setup and a skin-able interface made it worthwhile.

thanks all (so far). the j-player does look nifty, and the little circle button version seems to take up very little screen space.

my web guy took a look and was honest enough to say that some of it went over his head. since my head is far lower than his, if it does appear this is the best player for the task, could i get some help incorporating it into the build?
