My wife has been gone for a week on a business trip with her company. She has 2 week-long trips per year with her job and when she goes I am a lost puppy. I tell you, clothes left on the floor, dishes in the sink, fast food every night.....forgetting to water the plants and flowers.....almost missing trash day.....I really have to get my act together.

Anyway she is coming back today and I will once again, return to my normal, good husband ways. In fact, I will have the place looking good as new and she won't notice a thing.....so I guess the transformation is beginning today.

But all jokes aside, she is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me and that is why I put on my "organized husband" mask when she is around because she is a special gal to put up with me and my stuff. I need to get her some flowers for her return home.....oh yeah, and remove the half eaten piece of pizza from off the mantle and fix that giant hole I accidentally busted in the drywall....and the.... (just kidding on those last ones).

Anyway, thought I would share.

Actually, behind every successful man stands an astonished mother-in-law.

Good for you Ben! I hate it when my wife leaves town. Every time she leaves something goes wrong. Once I almost burnt the house down. Unbeknownst to me, someone was storing a plastic plate in the oven (why would anyone do this!!!) and when I preheated the oven for typical bachelor food (pizza)..poof!! Another time my youngest son ran into a potted plant that to our horror, contatained a yellow jacket nest. He was stung 30 times...he was fine after a trip to the emergency room...That is just two examples of many more. My wife is already thinking I stage these things so she won't go out of town. At our place I tell everyone we have 5 kids, my wife tells everyone she has 6 kids, and I am the worst. Shocked

Last time my wife went out of town I demolished the family room while running the TV audio into the stereo... tore apart the soon to be baby room while trying to get a chest of drawers out (want to paint it) and knocked over not one but TWO of her potted plants and spilled dirt on the carpet. That's all in addition to my "revert to college behaviour" ways when she's not around. I feel your pain Ben.

Good Lord, you guys.

When my husband goes out of town the only thing that changes around here is I do the dishes, take out the trash, and lock the doors.

For me it was watching my Star Wars IV, V, and VI dvds and playing games on the X-box. Hence the reason I wanted to hook the TV up to the stereo. I also rearranged the room so my recliner was smack dab in the middle of the room. Needless to say I moved it back before she got home, but boy it was a sweet set-up for those 2 1/2 days.

Yes! I will have to try that. We have a lazy boy leather recliner in our bedroom that is not getting much use....I will have to drag that thing out (we have a ranch) into the living room and put it to good use.

I got remarried 8 years ago and my new grandmother-in-law thought I was a lazy bum because I was "noting but an actor". She finally got the message that I really DO earn real money when my wife quit working about 3 years ago and we still can buy groceries and keep up payments on the house, the cars, and all.

And yes, this is a gloomy place without my dear, sweet Emma. Even the dogs lay around and mope when she's gone. And it's no fun seeing this guy mope:

Have a great weekend! We are trying out a new concoction this evening...Waikiki Martinis!!!

Reality is coming back veryyyy slooooooowly.
