If I do not have LD set up on my ISDN, but need to dial out in the morning...what are my options to avoid the hefty charges?

I have never had to dial out and decided to avoid jumping through hoops to try and set it up..

If there is no LD on my line, and I use a pic code...will that work?

This is a decent gig I don't want to lose, but they are not budging...

Check for 10-10 dialing in your area, it is costly, but works.

Kara,

Yes, the 10-10 options that are available in your area would be the ones to check out. Especially focus on MCI or Sprint. You may not get full ISDN bandwidth (which will lead to problems connecting or getting a full lock) if you use anyone else's codes.

Rates could be as high as a dollar per minute per phone line when you use a pic code, but if it saves the gig...

I also wonder about your using a bridging service such a George Whittam's. The service could call both of you and link you. I think it's $50 or less per hour. Here's his URL: http://outofhear.com/

HEART YOU GUYS!!! Smile

Seriously, thank you.

Great news- the client agreed to use Skype for our session today. He mentioned several times missing ISDN, but considering I would have been footing the bill...I think this worked juuuust fine Smile At the end of the day, the end client was ecstatic, and THAT is what matters!

So months ago Frank and I did a test using Skype. He was in Park City UT and me here in King NC. He read copy at his end and I recorded it here from Skype. I then sent it to Frank who put a music bed under and sent it back to me. Honestly it sounded very good.

I believe that using a double-ender ( http://www.bloggingtips.com/2009/09/03/using-a-double-ender-in-podcasting ) is a very good method to lower ISDN cost. The quality of Skype gives a very good idea of what the talent is doing and the recording on the talent’s side can be encoded to MP2 level 3 and sent via the net. Same ISDN quality with much lower cost. Sound Forge 10Pro will save files as MP2 level 3 not sure about other programs.
I produce my radio program here at home and save it to MP2 level 3 and send it via FTP to the NPR station that airs the program.
