Happy anniversary of the birth of Heinrich Hertz, everybody. Where would we be without him? I heart Hertz. And thank goodness his name wasn't Gazorninplatz, or something. That might have been problematic. _________________ Patricia Shanks

By the way he's accidentally in the middle of the scientific community's continuing attempt to keep the rest of us largely in the dark. When you've been a student of science as long as I have you'll see that just as soon as the public starts to understand a concept, they throw you a curve ball.
Radio signals used to be measured/described as cycles, as in kilocycles for AM radio and megacycles for FM. But then the people started to understand the "wave" or cycle concept of radio signals so the changed them all to Hertzes, so now it's kilohertz and megahertz.
Hey, we were happy with just protons, neutrons and electrons, but now they tell us we've got even smaller particles like a dozen different kinds of quarks and bosons. And now they're trying to tell us they're not really particles but they're strings! And don't get me started on quantum physics, which says if you watch an electron do a hula dance here, an identical electron is doing the same dance a trillion miles away, but if you don't watch it, it won't.
I tell ya, they're up to something.....

Hey Don,
In the context of Bruce's post above, shouldn't that be the Neutrino Dance instead? _________________ Be well,

I want to pitch the idea of hearing about the work of Heir Hertz with more frequency. After all he gave us a level playing field and presents a sound principle.
Lets shout his praises with loudness until it vibrates the airwaves everywhere. _________________ Roger Tremaine

Sorry folks but this had been weighing heavy on me for years.
Bill Shakespeare said “A Rose by any other name would smells as sweet”. Call it a Hertz if you like, it still means Cycle Per Second.
Finally consider that James Clerk Maxwell is credited with first defining the EMR (Electro Magnic Radiation). Born in Edinbrugh, Scotland 1831. Also Alexander Graham Bell was also born in Edinbrough 1847. After whom the Decibel is named. Without EMR the Telephone, Radio, Cell phones, TV, … Ad infinitum would not exist.
Mr Hertz only did research that corroborated Maxwell’s findings. With out the medling folks in Paris maybe it would be more accuratly call by the name of the person who discovered it. _________________ Esse quam videri "To be rather than to seem"
