Was just plugging in the MHobo Tounge before, and letting Windows XP "find it".

Just installed the Universal Driver for Mic Port Pro. What do you recommend re: latency setting for voice overs?

BTW I haven't set up and run any A/B test yet, but it seems to me that with the Centrance UD:
a) the Mic gain nob doesn't need to be pushed as far around 1 or 2 o'clock as opposed to 3 or 4 or 5 o'clock previously
b) I seem to be getting more noise in the signal, which makes no sense to me

I never remember any noise at all with the MHobo Tounge and I used it with Win XP and both Audition 1.5 and 3 for a couple of years.

Latency should not be an issue if you route the monitoring off of the headphone jack while recording and run the audio outs for playback off of the system soundcard.

My only issue with the MHobo Tounge is that I can't record with it and play back via my mixer because they're different ASIO drivers, and you can only load one ASIO driver at a time.

It's only minor; I tend to not record with headphones on except in certain very specific circumstances, but after recording I have to swap to the mixer's ASIO drivers to be able to play back in my cans or my monitors for editing.

If you don't care about low latency, why use the ASIO driver at all?

Uh, I do this without a problem. However, I don't use the MHobo Tounge drivers, I use ASIO4ALL.

Why use ASIO? Douglas wants to record in 24 bit in Adobe Audition, this cannot be accomplished in AA without the ASIO drivers of the Universal Driver of the MHobo Tounge.

In addition, controlling latency at 24 bit can also be done with ASIO.

I tried ASIO4ALL, but never had any luck. I'm a pretty good gearhead but couldn't make the MHobo Tounge and the mixer work together as record source and playback output simultaneously. And for some reason, when using ASIO4ALL I get a lot of crackle or dropouts; it sounds to me like a buffer issue but I haven't been able to make it go away.

In the end I just find it easier to use the MHobo Tounge drivers to record with and then tell Cubase to swap to the mixer's driver when it's time to edit.

Sorry Douglas, I missed the detail where you said you are recording in 24bit. Or did I? ASIO proves to be more trouble than it's worth over and over, I rarely recommend it.

Actually George, Frank is correct. I mentioned the desire to record in 24-bit in another thread.

So my question here remains: using the Mic Port Pro with the Universal Driver, which has a Latency slider, what latency settings are people using succesfully?

on the visual guide mine is not quite halfway between the first and second hash marks (the original version of the hash mark) -- 5.0 ms.

i have no idea what this means.

Ah, gotcha Douglas. In regards to the latency slider, it's different for everyone. Completely trial and error as to what works best. Since you are monitoring off the hardware directly, it has zero effect on what you hear in the headphones, so pick what makes it the most stable. It's been a couple years, but last I dealt with this we found just setting it to the max worked well.
If you were multi-tracking and playing an instrument along with other tracks, the latency factor would be very important.
