|
|
I was in a home studio (not my own) this past weekend and the mic that was used to record my voice was a Lauten FC357. I'd never heard of Lauten before but have googled it since. I really liked how it made me sound, and I was wondering if anyone could vouch for this mic? Right now it's on my list of mics to consider upgrading to in future. _________________ Kevin A. Kline

I know of Lauten and have only heard fantastic things about their mics. This mic is also on my list of sub-$1000 mic's for my next upgrade. It probably won't happen until late this year or next but here is my official list of mic's I'm going to try on my voice and pick from a blind test.
Lauten FC-357
Lauten Audio Horizon LT-321
Bock 195
Mojave MA-200
Infamous Neumann TLM 103
Do you know what mic pre and audio interface (or A/D converters) you recorded the test through? _________________ http://jordanreynolds.com |

It went into the pre on a Mackie mixer(no eq), most likely the 1604-VLZ3. Not sure what the interface was - looked like the Lexicon Alpha. Not very useful b/c I'm not 100% sure of the exact gear ued outside of the mic itself, which I wrote down. _________________ Kevin A. Kline

Microphones are like ice cream, everyone has a favorite flavor.
I've heard great sounds from Lauten microphones, their website has some nice samples. If the microphone sounds good with your voice, that's more important than the name on the front.
I have 3 of Mike Joly's Rode NT1a modded microphones, www.oktavamod.com and they sound great with my voice. I've also have a Neumann U87a, and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
And then there's the Telefunken line of microphones out of Connecticut... I want to try one of the diamond series and compare it. I have the stereo microphone from them, and that makes for some great piano recordings.
Now I want some ice cream. But back to the point, if it sounds good... it is good. (someone way cooler and famous said that once...) _________________ Company, villainous company, hath been the spoil of me...

+1 on the Mojave MA 200 on my voice. Love that mic.
-1 on the TLM 103 didn't work for me.....again on my voice.
Have not tried the Lauten. I'm hopeful you'll try each of these mics you have listed. Nothing there looked bad. DO try the MA 200 before you choose.
One of the best pieces of advice I got on my long mic process was "you'll know it when you hear it." _________________ There are rules to the Universe. Learn them and prosper. www.HumbleVoiceover.com |
