Recommend some music, audiophiles!

These two have been in heavy rotation the last few weeks.

I'm a big John Scofield fan and this CD is just plain fun to listen to. I play Sticks and Stones in my truck and just about set off the airbag from beating on the steering wheel. Laugh

The latest from the Chile Peppers. Two-disc set. Could've been one disc. The first half of both discs are incredible.

Actually, I've been listening to a LOT of different music lately. I joined lala.com a few months ago. It's a CD swapping service. First, you put all the CD's you're interested in trading onto a personal page there. Then another member will request one of your CD's and you send it in a postage paid envelope that you get for free from lala. Once they've received your CD, you're entitled to get a CD from someone else's collection. The only time you pay anything is they ding your account for $1.49 when you indicate you've received a CD. By the way, 20 cents of that goes to the artist, which never happens in any other trade or sale of used CD's.

Anyway, in the three months I've been on board I've traded about 80 CD's out and the same number in. It's wonderful. I'm catching up on a lot of tunes I've been missing for ages.

Check out RAUL MIDON

This young man was once the hottest unsigned artist of the year. He's got a brand new album out titled State of Mind.. Don't miss him. I just caught his opening for Joe Jackson (who was himself stellar in his trio) at the Avalon in Hollywood last night. Awesome.

Raul's doing Montreau this year. Wish I were going.

I love Scofield.

Most recently I've been checking out a band called the Reverse Engineers.

Saw an NYC band at a local hall last weekend called Bad Plus. Piano, bass and drums. No idea how to describe them. Some kind of jazz. Quite an education for this Schubert lovin' gal. They were a riot. I had a great time although I was glad I had ear plugs.

I have been checking out a Victor Wooten live show someone recorded. He is the bass player for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (jazz electric banjo fusion music). He is an incredible bass player.

Also David Gray's new CD is cool too.

Just got back from a outdoor show downtown. Big Head Todd & The Monsters were great. Carbon Leaf and John Wozniak (of Marcy Playground) were pretty good too. The other bands... not so much no. But a good time was had by all.

King's X?! Deebs, you never cease to amaze me. (And now, of course, the song is stuck in my head!)

Thank God for the ipod. I crammed as much as I could into my 20G, and now all I do is hit shuffle. An example of this morning's playlist:

Dance Hall Days - Wang Chung (what a way to start the day, huh?)
Crash & Burn - Blues Traveler
Salvation - The Cranberries
The Lee Shore - Crosby Stills & Nash
Elmo - Holly McNarland
Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix

I never would have thought of this mix on my own, but it really works! Although...it freaks me out sometimes when it jumps from System Of A Down to Schubert, then to Reba McEntyre!

As far as CHOOSING what I'll listen to: I just downloaded the new album from Buckcherry ("15"). The lyrics aren't always grandma-friendly, but it's a great rock and roll record!

Charlie, my wife LOVE Raul Midron! He's a great talent.

Here's my short list. This one I can't get enough of:

Great group. Nice, textured 12-string jangle rock from New Jersey. Saw them at SXSW last year and had a blast.

After discovering Roger McGuinn's folk archives and listening to it for the last year, I had to go out and get my first Springsteen album in 20 years:

and then:

Honorable mentions go to The New Cars, Blackmore's Night, Waylon Jennings, Foo Fighters, and a cast of dozens.

Stephane Grappelli has been big on the Hit Parade around here lately. The "At the Winery" and "Violin Jazz Master" albums.
Also re-discovered an old Mr. Mister CD..their last, "Go On'...out of print now...but worth the search.

Robin Ford too.."Talk to your Daughter"

Bad Plus drives me crazy. Like Liberace on acid with a loud drummer. Bass player's great though. An aquired taste for sure. Jazz trio...covering Sabbath and Nirvana?

That album is a linchpin of my practice collection-- skillz I aspire to.
I got it a couple of years ago from a bassist pal and damn near burnt up the CD playing it all the time. Even now-- every time I work out on the drums I play Help the Poor.

As always..."Deeb's got taste"! That rhythm section takes no prisoners...

I'm lucky in that I get to cover "Poor", "Wild about You" and a Ford-esq version of "Bad Sign".

Dirty-dirty stuff. Love it!

There's a handful of cd's I've been listening to lately...seems like over and over again. Eric Clapton - Unplugged, Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic,
Heart - Dreamboat Annie, Bad Company - Runnin' With the Pack, Nazareth - Hair of the Dog, and Boston - Boston
For the most part I'm a locked into the 70's Rock and Roll, kind of guy. That kind of music just really makes me feel good inside. I call it my "feel good music". I like a wide variety of other stuff besides, but no other music makes me feel the way 70's rock makes me feel. It lifts me up and puts me in a great happy go lucky mood.
For relaxing....a favorite is Chicago.....some old Anne Murray and some acoustic guitar sampler cds I have.
