that's all I have on my iPod - along with some Wayne Dyer stuff, Pat Fraley's stuff, and some podcasts... but that's about it.

Quote: | Check out RAUL MIDON
This young man was once the hottest unsigned artist of the year. He's got a brand new album out titled State of Mind.. Don't miss him. I just caught his opening for Joe Jackson (who was himself stellar in his trio) at the Avalon in Hollywood last night. Awesome.

Here's how the VO-BB works: one takes a cursory look on a weekend morning between sections of newspaper, absorbs some of the material in some fashion, then continues on with the day. Day winds down, one goes to a little outdoor venue (in this case called Red Butte Garden) where one listens to the music outside the gate (as one is thrifty, frugal, can hear the great tunes without having to go inside and stay seated out of respect for others who are staying seated). Joe Jackson is the headliner, but the opening act is Raul Midon. Ha! One has perhaps not heard of the man before that earlier, morning peak at VO-BB. One listens now (outside the gate) with much greater appreciation thanks to the one-of-a-kind, unprecedented, beyond compare board full of all-knowing, musically-inclined tipsters. Thanks, peeps! The show was great! _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Today it's a playlist in winamp. Last few songs are:
Neil Diamond "Coming To America"
Phish "Bouncing Around The Room"
Alabama "If You Wanna Play In Texas"
Rupert Holmes "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)"
Green Day "Wake Me Up When September Ends"
AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long"
Garth Brooks "Friends In Low Places"
Beastie Boys "Body Movin (Fatboy Slim Remix)"
One of those "just dump everything in the playlist, hit random, and see what happens" kind of days for me. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

I've discovered Bruce Cockburn! His 2003 "You've Never Seen Everything" album is pretty amazing.
I've also been hooked on Frou Frou. They're the band that has that amazing song at the end of "Garden State".
Other bands I've been enjoying lately are:
Foo Fighters
The Killers
The Hives
Radiohead

I pulled out my old Steven Curtis Chapman CD called Signs of Life. Every song is stellar.

TGG - OH YEAH! Chicago, Heart, Clapton... I am with ya...
But lately I am into what was once called New Age... mellows me out and makes me feel - relaxed. Of course it doesnt hurt that I was involved with that movement during my time in the San Francisco Bay area... remember when Windahm Hill first started in an old grocery store.... I used to hang out with some of the best artists in the Bay Area.
Ahh, as I recall the old, the new things are taking over...

John Williams: The Baroque Album is a permanent staple.
Borrowing from the Instruments thread, I can play the Chaconne nearly perfectly except for the insane triplet runs in the middle of the piece. (But then, even most formally trained guitarists --- which I'm not --- tend to say "no thanks" and stick to the sixteenth-notes there.) _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. Frank!.....2 of the acoustic guitar sampler cds that I listen to are Windham Hill! Cool. Really good stuff and it falls into the category of New Age music. Although there is nothing about the pieces themselves that would distinguish them as "New Age" rather than just "easy listening". They are just beautiful acoustic guitar performances. Very relaxing and enjoyable. _________________ TG2

Speaking of jazz....I love anything by Bill Evans....or the Bill Evans Trio...that dude is awesome. For those unfamiliar Bill was a legend in the jazz piano arena. He has a very unique style to say he least.
I love the CD he recorded called Sunday at the Village Vanguard (in NYC). He plays with a young bass player who I believe passed away in a plane crash shortly after it was recorded. It is a CD on the bass player's favorite since the bass player Scott Lafaro was incredible and he was only like 19 or so. Your jazz lesson of the day.... _________________ Ben

Well, make sure you get the box set titled "The Last Waltz."
He did a week stint at Kimballs East in Emeryville and every evening's performance was recorded. He did not play like a man who would be dead within a few days -- I believe he passed from this scene about 10 days later. It's really incredible to hear him play and introduce tunes. The trio was astonishing. Get it. You'll never regret the money spent.
