Incidentally:
The flat out, hands-down BEST COVER EVAR
of Johnny B. Goode is by
Judas Priest.
I was listening to that tonight as I worked in my yard. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

What have I been listening to lately? I know I've been listening to Classic Rock BUZZ 102.5, The Rocker (WRKR) 107.7, Q106 (WJXQ 106.1), WRIF 101.1, but all of these have been in the car on the way to and fro for the last 80 hours of work.
In CDs, I've been listening to an interesting band called Blackmoor's Night. They're a sort of medieval band, led by Ritchie Blackmoor, from ELO, I think. They're a very awesome band. If you get a chance, check them out.

erm... or rather WAS...
Blackmore's Night is definitely worth checking out. To me, it's an odd mix of Enya and Jethro Tull (circa Songs from the Wood and Heavy Horses). Not sure if that's the most accurate description, but that's the best I can do at 6am.
Candace Night is Richie's wife and she has a great voice. Their last album includes a DVD of the group live. I've run out of declarative sentences. _________________ Greg Littlefield

My CDs are divided into two groups. The first sit in the front room and are wife and visitor friendly. A fairly broad cross-section of stuff, though mostly 80's & 90's.
The stuff that I really prefer to listen to sits in the studio:
Harald Weiss
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Michael Nyman
Erik Satie
John Zorn
Bjork
Bach
etc.
The best album ever made? Genesis: "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway"
First live gig: Tangerine Dream
Best live band: The Enid

Don't be a smarm, Littlefield.

Not usually... Unless, of course, I'm listening to "Come Taste the Band" with Tommy Bolin and David Coverdale... To me, the crux of the Deep Purple "sound" was Jon Lord and Ian Paice.

I apologize, Deirdre, I didn't mean to get Mr. Blackmore confused with anyone else! Anyway, Blackmore's Night is absolutely worth a listen. Jen and I listen to them when we're on the road to the Ren Faires. There's a song on the disc titled Ghost of a Rose that's called Diamonds and Rust that is one of my personal faves. And, as Mr. Littlefield pointed out earlier, Candace Night is one fine, fine singer.
Seriously, check them out!!
Here, listen to this, it's Diamonds and Rust.

And her voice ain't bad, neither! (rimshot)
But this brings page 4 of this topic to a sort of full circle as Judas Priest also covered "Diamonds and Rust" many moons ago. Hardly like this or the original Joan Baez version, though.

For the English madrigal sound I head for my old Steeleye Span Albums/CD's.

Now I'm going to have to find Joan Baez's original of this song. I didn't know that she did it originally! I thought it was written by Richie Blackmore. . .hm. . . _________________ Christopher G. French
