Hi you guys,

Just curious for those of you who do participate on Voices.com. They have a section in your profile where you specifiy "association" as Non-union, SAG, or AFTRA etc. Presumably if one were to specify non-union only, then no union opportunities would be sent and vice versa. Presumably if one were to specify all three, then one would receive opportunities from all three.

I'd like to hear comments about how this works in practice, especially from anyone who might be Fi-Core with one or both unions (or "the one union" now I guess) and looking at all 3 types of opportunities. Are there many union opportunities coming through here? Any general comments on the numbers, quality, etc of the respective opportunities?

Since I am just getting started I've not had any reason to join a union before now, and at this point I suppose it would only be triggered if an agency would want to hire me to do a union spot. I'm not opposed to this, but it seems the only way to actually see them in an online forum would be to list myself as available for SAG or AFTRA. I figure I can always silently observe these notices without auditioning if it's inadvisable. I don't want to make a misstep; however, I do admit to being curious about what opportunities may be out there. I don't want to unnecessarily close doors by making a incorrect assumption.

Related question - with the merged union is it now the case that you have to be hired for a union gig before you join? That's the impression that I had, but I have not given this issue close attention.

Thanks, everyone.

Jen

When I had a profile, I put AFTRA even though I was not union. If a union job happened to come my way, I could always Taft-Hartely it.

Yeah, Jeff, that's what I was thinking I could potentially do too. Would that I should be so lucky to get hired and have that problem. Smile
