Imagine (indulge me) if every agent said to a client "sorry none of my artists will audition for such a **ss poor amount" and all the pay to play sites only heard from, that is got auditions from, Fred Smoo and his $4.99 mic.
Whilst I am in favour of the free market we appear to be helping to push the market all the way to FREE.
One demo producer is on a video podcast giving the "low down" on the industry standard for demos. Were he really in touch with industry standards he would say that the standard is not to bother listening to them and just get a bucket load of auditions. I accept that is no help to people who sell demo production at $3,000 a pop.
Ideally three things need to work in concert.
1 - VOs really need to say no more often.
2 - Agents need to say to producers "I know the sound you want so take a listen to these demos and if you need a custom demo from the short list you compile get back to me"
3 - Producers get paid for their inspiration and should be prepared to pay for your perspiration. If you sit in a cab waiting to make up your mind where you would like to go Mr Producer even while the cab isn't moving the meter is running. |
