I'm producing a show and the guy who's recording the VO is using Garage Band on the iPad with the Apogee MiC. Every once in a while, one of his files sounds like it has compression added so that the sound completely drops out in those moments when he's not speaking...making it sound a bit choppy. He says he's not adding anything and that it's set on automatic. I haven't used Garage band. Does it have some function it applies on automatic setting that detects noise levels and auto-corrects or tries to compensate? If so, how do we get that turned off? _________________ Dave DeAndrea

Dave.....
Not yet a Garageband expert, but it sounds to me as if he's got the Automatic Level Control armed. It acts both as a compressor and a gate.... and it sucks.
Have him uncheck the box. I think it's in the track menu. If not, have him look in settings.
For more, search Garageband Automatic Level Control on the Goog. Plenty of articles there. _________________ Don Brookshire
