I did a search and found bo*****s, so I am creating this thread for us to share thoughts and opinions on recently watched movies.

In Bruges

Brilliant film!

The script takes turns that leaves you wondering where its heading. I was constantly baffled by the juxtaposition of tense drama and laugh-out-loud comedy present in some scenes.

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson both deliver great performances. Ralph Fiennes is present in what feels like a wink at Guy Ritchie's most popular films.

Brave

See it. Period. Pixar did it again.

Next up: The Guard.

*Edit* Modified the thread title.

I just recently saw Ice Age (whichever one we are on now) and Brave as a double feature at the drive-in (yes, we do in fact still have some around here...2 actually Laugh). I really liked both, but would like to see them again when I'm not exhausted from watching back to back movies...ha! There were many times during Brave though where I forgot I was watching an animated film (the landscape scenes were just superb!)

Must agree, In Bruges was nicely done.

Old movies? I remember liking Alice's Restaurant when it came out oh so many years ago. Started watching it on Netflix yesterday. Wow, is it dated now. Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end.....

The Guard

Once again, a good film.

Brendan Gleeson does very well as a depressed and dour Gaeltacht guard in the Irish West Country.
It is Irish/Scottish turned up a notch in almost every aspect. People are idiots, racists, sarcastic, or any combination of that and another trait that is hilarious to see but painful to experience. Deadpan humour when it is fine. Plenty of that here.

Warning: Americans, this is a movie with thick accents. Brendan Gleeson's being the hardest to understand.

Saw the first episode of Doctor Who, with Matt Smith as the Doctor. Brilliant!! Funny, dramatic, absolutely fantastic dialogue, and good acting.

Have to say that so far I prefer Matt Smith over David Tennant. I am of the younger generation, so Tom Baker does not apply to me right now.

Blasphemy Gasp

While Mr. Smith does a fine job, one simply does not say that the new Doctor is better than the old Doctor. The new Doctor can only ever be favourably compared with the old Doctor when he himself has become an old Doctor.

But see, I never saw Doctor Who from the start of the revitalized series with Chris Eccleston. What little I've seen from Tennant has been... borderline overacting/indicating. I'm just digging a deeper hole for myself, aren't I? Being a proper berk here, right?

I will not argue this matter. It's like trying to bridge generational gaps when it comes to James Bond.

*Edit* Was delighted to see Sophie Okonedo in bits of the new series. She is a stunning woman and a wonderful actress.

Generational gap? Maybe Wink

I clearly remember watching the first episode of Doctor Who (not the 2005 re-boot, but the 1963 original). William Hartnell was everyone's favourite eccentric uncle/grandfather. There have been some aberrations along the way (notably Jon Pertwee), but I'm fully on-board with the re-boot.

As for Bond... I don't really understand what you mean... there is, and can only ever be, one Bond.

What if Bond was a Time Lord? One that regenerates for every new actor that is cast as James Bond?

I've had discussions with my father regarding who our favourite Bond-actor is. He keeps swerving between Roger Moore and Sean Connery.

Connery all the way.... The only thing that swerves with Roger Moore are his eyebrows!

That's an interesting thought about treating Bond as a Time Lord though... puts a different perspective on it.

I am quite excited that Diana Rigg will be a guest star in the upcoming season of Dr. Who!

The only Dr. Who I really ever watched (and therefore, the only one I like Smile) was Tom Baker. I could never get into the show with any other version of him, but to be fair, I haven't really tried all that hard Embarrassed

Maybe one day I'll give the other Dr. Whos a chance Laugh

Tom Baker is 'my' Doctor too. Had a friend knit me a replica scarf years ago, but it was lost in the move to FL. (Not that I need it now.)

I watched one of my favorite movies last night;

The Fifth Element

Some great art direction, fun story and visuals. (of course I also like Hudson Hawk)

My other favorite movie;

Blade Runner.

However, not the directors cut. I prefer the Harrison Ford voice over, to me it gives it that detective novel style that I like. I blame listening to "The Shadow".

I did see the new Batman movie, it was ok, but mostly meh.. for me anyway.
