While I know it is not nearly as good as what one of you can do, I recently voiced this video for Komi. Unfortunately, I was not given enough time to make sense of the script in some areas, so I had to read it as it appeared.
First one - I'll learn to do better, but allow me to drink a celebratory adult beverage for this accomplishment...
Please enjoy: The Republic of Komi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfKE2SzTjfU&feature=g-all-u&safety_mode=true&persist_safety_mode=1
(Any critiques are welcome...should I have put it in the Critique room, Jeff?) _________________ My full name is Karl Kuhlken (think Macauly Culkin...it rhymes)

That was a fine, professional job that sounded pretty good to me! I may not be putting Komi on my bucket list, but I was certainly edjimicated.
".. people firstly came to the..." did jar a bit, but that's no doubt a script issue. Well done with some of those place names! _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I guess I meant any one of you...but I could name names...
It sounded better in my head.
Yeah, I tripped over some of the translation inaccuracies but was specifically told in the notes to read as is since there was no time for correcting.
Thanks for the kind words. The Russian names were easy for me as I took Russian in college 25 years ago and was able to remember enough to get by. _________________ My full name is Karl Kuhlken (think Macauly Culkin...it rhymes)

It really bothers me when I'm told to read grammatically incorrect copy. I think it actually causes me physical pain. On a short script, I'll correct it, send it back with a very polite suggestion that this may be a good option as it sounds better (never tell them that they're illiterate eejits!). If my polite suggestion is rejected and I'm told to go verbatim... then so be it. Once, I corrected an obvious error and was told to re-do it as per the script.
In all cases, the man with the cheque book is right.
It's not just grammar though, there was a good one in a phone script the other day: "... for quality and assurance purposes." Aaaaargh! _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Wow, for an early project in your VO career that was quite good.
I take a little pride in trying to know a little bit about everything in global culture, but when it comes to the Komi people....zzzipp. Thanks for the elucidation. Too bad they didn't get an English speaking writer to clean up the copy. I mean it was meant for our ears. Why not make it more relatable for us? And they were clearly crammed for time. Hey, so long as the rubles clear the bank!
Here's to your next project!
