I'm in the middle of a HEE-UGE project (over 100,000 words) -- it's a medical textbook, and I have a company database to look up all the challenging words...

But on one slide, the directions say "Spell out the abbreviations and read their meanings," and there are abbreviations like "BCC -- basal cell carcinoma," etc.

There are also abbreviations like "decub -- decubitus ulcer" and "subcu -- subcutaneous"... do you think I should still spell those out, or would you read them?

I put the question in to the PTB, but the chain to get a simple question answered is long and tedious -- I cut it both ways, but I want to put one in as a place holder till they get back to me.

WWTVO-BBD?

Thanks!

i would say, for example, "de-cube" and sub-cue" -- that was my first inclination ...

good luck, doc!

I agree with Diane. Years ago, I remember asking my wife to explain what "sub-q" fluids were. (She works as a veterinarian technician.)

I asked my med-student step-daughter... she agrees with the previous comments.

Thank you all! I'm STILL waiting on a decision, but at least I feel pretty confident that I sent in what was wanted.

Three chapters down, neck-deep in Chapter 4 -- the musculoskeletal system.

Could they possibly mean spell out acronyms - and read common abbreviations as written - then do the meanings.

Don't guess. Wait for the publisher to give you the final word on it. If they keep stalling, remind them that this is a work-stoppage issue and further delays on their end push the date of completion out.
