Me again! Yes, I'm working, working, working....but not on VO itself....since I'm (ahem) between gigs!!! So, in addition to upgrading my website and demos, I'm also looking at taking care of a nasty soundproofing problem I have in my studio. My little room is perfect as far as size and where it's located: away from the hubbub of the main house. But one of the common walls is joined with our garage, which is unfinished. It will be an easy task to add drywall to that common garage wall and add the insulation, which hubby and I plan to do. But, I'm guessing there is a certain type of insulation that adds to soundproofing, rather than the run of the mill type one can get from Home Depot and such.

Can anyone suggest a brand name? Maybe specs of what to look for for soundproofing? A website link?

Thanks for any info you can provide. You guys rock!

I strongly recommend the book "Home Recording Studio: Build it Like the Pros" by Rod Gervais. It's a little heavy going, but you'll only really need to read a couple of chapters to assist with your garage wall solution.

Or, you could spend a little bit o'$$$$ with George Whittam and get a custom solution without having to read anything Smile

A garage wall should be setup offset with rubber grommets, because vibrational noise is a big issue. I'd also suggest using Quiet rock drywall, which is available at Home Depot.

I'd also recommend a product like this 1/4" soundproofing sheet available from eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-4-Acoustic-SoundProofing-WALL-FOAM-Sound-Block-ROLL-/170614325483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b96800eb

But before you do anything, contact somebody like Gretchen at Gretch-Ken, or Dan Lenard or some other person knowledgeable in acoustics and building materials and practices. Green glue is another product you will want to look into, as well as things like bass traps and other interior treatments.

Thanks, JS and Graeme....good info all. As in all things VO that I've discovered: nothing is simple, right? I've downloaded Gervais's book and sent your info to the hubby, JS. Coincidentally, Dan Lenard is holding a webinar through VoiceoverXtra (Florian's group) tomorrow night on this very subject and I will be attending. Timing is everything! Thanks again....
