At risk of being a complete chowder head anyone ever heard of this outfit out of Wisconsin called Speedy Spots? the website is www.speedyspots.com b\ Interesting concept a little frightening too considering th end user Production company is paying like 30 bucks a pop for the thing they apparently have the talent on stipend and then pay them per job from home. Again if you've heard of this I apaologize but I thought is t was intriguing. |

Very Interesting.... Looked over the site, listened to the talent two of the 20 odd males were decent - the others were - well - small potatoes...
Four women stood out from the crowd. The others - well, V123 should like them...
O.K., it's a personal observation.
Don't know how you came up with their pricing - as I was not going to contact them for that information and it was not posted on the site.
Sounds a bit fishy to me... but then I am prejudice and jaded when it comes to VO 'list' sites... i.e.: V123, IV, etc...
What does it cost talent to 'list' with them? What kind of numbers are we talking in terms of spots per week/per month? Too many wide open questions for me to consider as something "I" would utilize as a Producer. Why cannot they provide interaction between the talent and client... if this is high quality as professed to be?
If they (SpeedySpots) would just do the billing and collection along with their web list - letting the talent do the work - and conncetions with talent/client be done by something like Skype (or ispeek) with a conference connection through SpeedySpots - the rest would be a breeze and make money for all concerned.
In a word 'interesting'....

I was driving one day when the phone rang and on the line was the guy from Speedy Spots asking if I would be interested in being in his voice talent pool. He said (at the time) that they paid $15 per spot. I said "Excuse me? Did you say $15 as in one - five?" After he said yes - $15 per spot, but that I could be doing lots and lots of $15 spots - I delclined the "opportunity."
Apparently the rate has gone up to $30 in the past couple of years. _________________ Playing for a living...

I have a friend who produces local TV and radio spots for an ad agency, and he has used Speedy Spots for voice talent. In fact, he mentioned Speedy Spots to me as one way to try to start getting work in the biz. He told me it would be cheap work, but we didn't discuss details. I didn't think it would be *that* cheap. He mentioned Planet Charley as another, similar service that he uses sometimes.
I know he also goes to some of the established, reputable non-union talent agencies in town sometimes when he needs a voice, so he's not paying that little for voice talent on every spot he produces. It must depend on what the client wants to spend. |

Frrank,
Maybe something along the line of what you were suggesting could be an off-shoot of iSpeek. A talent-client connection website that offers those servies you mentioned. Just an idea.

It's sad, but a lot of clients don't have an ear for what's good VO and don't seem to care. And there are a slough of bottom feeders who will take whatever falls their way. It's always been that way and always will.
Luckily there a plenty of folks who know quality when they hear it and it's our job to be there when they're looking for it.
Me, I'd rather work to find one $200 job than do a handful of $30 jobs any day.

Pat--
It's OK to do $30 jobs when you're first starting out!
Good Lord-- you have to start somewhere. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

OK...Well I gotta put gas in my gas guzzler and pay for private school
for my kid..so I will do the cheaper spots, pay for these things and you can
keep waitin' for the diamond. I know talent in LA and elsewhere who DO
make big bucks getting the big gigs and still have a voice 123 site and audition for the cheaper gigs. The small client or TV station you help today
could be the future BIG gig . Maybe that producer is in
Oshkosh today but next year, he or she could be in NYC and if they liked
you then...they'll like you in NYC I hate to say it this way...but sometimes,
we can't be prima donnas! |
