Didn't get this Xoom table to record with, but was wondering if I could - using my MicPortPro and getting a USB to micro USB cable.
Read through the other two threads talking about recording, but it was too complicated for my brain...
So, if you know the answer, could you talk to me like I'm 6 years old?

Gonna take a stab at this one, though I could be completely wrong. I assume you mean you have a Xoom tablet, and you want to record on the tablet using the MicPortPro as an interface with some kind of mic, and some kind of recording software on the tablet.
As I understand it, the tablet- currently any Android tablet- is not a USB Host device. Therefore it is not designed to recognize- nor can it power- other USB devices. The micro USB port on the Xoom (as well as the MicPortPro) is there to connect with a Host device (such as your computer), which has USB drivers for other devices and can provide them power, as well.
Hopefully this situation will change in the future- i.e. USB host device tablets, or at least there will be some sort of device which will allow us to do that- but not at the moment.[/b] |

Agree with D above - I was just speaking about this issue with George Whittam on Thursday. I defer to the master, but my understanding from my conversation with George was that Android devices do not yet play nice with USB devices like Apogee MiCs, MicPort Pro, etc.

Ok, I think I understand.
Is this a hardware issue, or could drivers be developed to correct this on existing droids?
Much like earlier Audition software wasn't USB compatible, but by 3 it was? _________________ Playing for a living...

The real problem is that even if you get it to work, by some miracle of faith, there are absolutely no sound recording a s worthy of the kind of work we do. _________________ Jeff

Forgive me for being so late to join this thread.... I'm on vacation in the middle of nowhere....
The latest version of Android (JellyBean, which your Xoom should have by now) supports USB audio. That said, drivers for USB audio devices like the M do not yet exist, but will eventually come, as the user base of Android is now larger than IOS. Unfortunately, this is one area where IOS has developed much more quickly, due to the large contingent of artists drawn to the Apple environment.
The Android developer community is just now beginning to explore the possibilities of this new capability, and both Google and XDA, among others, are said to be working on taking advantage of this new feature. In time, I fully expect to be able to record and edit audio in Android. But it ain't here yet.
There are a few basic recording a s in the Play market, and some can even edit and manipulate audio. But getting the audio into the Xoom by USB is yet to come. At present, the best you can do is to use the onboard mic, or an external mic thru the mini headphone/mic port, but the quality isn't up to our standards. I'm hoping to see drivers to support USB mics soon, and maybe a generic USB audio driver somewhere down the line that would accept the audio output of a USB connected mixer or interface.
Til then, it's IOS or Windows..... _________________ Don Brookshire
