I have a client -- a small chain of jewelry stores -- for whom I have been doing commercials for the past year or so. For the most part, I have been using a couple of music beds selected from my Digital Juice collection that I deemed appropriate (and the client selected) for a relatively upscale jewelry business. This week he sent me a new script and wanted a slightly more up-tempo delivery and a new music bed. I gave him a few more lively choices from my Digital Juice library, but he came back and requested "something hipper."

Next time there's a sale on Staxx Traxx I'll be sure to order some of the more youthful, up-tempo-but-not-necessarily-rock disks, but in the meantime, can anybody suggest where I might locate some music that is hip but still appropriate for a classy jewelry client?

I have availed myself of Dave Courvoisier's comprehensive list of royalty-free music sources, but I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me narrow my search a bit. Perhaps you have something similar you've used for one of your clients who's not a jewelry store in New England.

Thanks.

Sony Creative Software recently started offering royalty-free prod music, I believe it's around $50/track...

If you have Sony Acid Express (it's free) you could have a free weekly download of royalty free music from Acid Planet. I've built quite a library of that over the years.

Lee,

I'm not sure if it's part of Dave's list, but I love the stuff at Stock20.com

Thanks. As it turns out, the client selected a piece from one of the vendors on Dave's list, productiontrax.com.

Lee, if you are looking for something specific and custom, I am a musician and would be able to help out in the future.

Good luck!

Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, but have you looked into Sonicfire Pro?
This software is simply a lifesaver in those kinds of situations. There is a modest learning curve, but the payoff is worth it.

You'll be able to browse their online catalogue from within the program with customized searches for the style, tempo or genre, etc., of the music you are looking for.

But, the killer feature is the ability to change the "mood" and structure of the tracks to add hits, change tempo or timing, or feeling of the track at any point you specify.

In a nutshell it gives you:

*MOOD MAPPING - Change the instrument mix along the timeline. Duck the lead instruments behind dialog, create sparse intros, remove unwanted instruments…endless creativity! (as quoted from website)

*CUSTOM MUSIC LENGTH - Saves you editing time.

*TIMING CONTROL - Every edit has a perfect beginning, middle and ending and accuracy is either precise or typically within 1/10 of a second (as quoted from website)

*DATABASE OF SEARCHABLE MUSIC - ,,,over 3,500 high quality tracks from professional artists and each of those tracks comes with Lifetime Customization (as quoted from website) You get instant access to all of them from within the program so you can find the exact piece of music you need. Once found you can then buy just that piece or the entire collection it resides in.

As a professional film and video editor I've used it for more projects then I can name. There's a free trial on their website, so if you're adventurous give it a try.

DISCLAIMER: This sounds kind of like an advertisement, but it's not. I've just had a favorable experience with the software as a long-time user. I have no stake or affiliation with the company or product. Your mileage may vary.

Hi Lee,
Don't know if you had this one on your list. It's pretty new. It's a new service from SoundSnap (great place for SFX)
