..someone is sending spoof emails claiming to be her and needing money. They ARE PHONEY but I believe we should (A) Pass along the info so no one gets stung and ( Play along with the fraud and waste their time!
The difference in replying to the spoof mail is that it goes to a ymail as opposed to the real Nancy at a yahoomail. |

Since ymail is a yahoo-owned extension, and the email's going to folks in her address list (I got one too), it's a fair bet her account's been compromised.
Since it's 5 a.m. in Cali right now, I'm hesitant to call her, but if anyone has another way to reach her besides email, it'd be kind to let her know. She's in for some pain for the rest of the week trying to sort things out.
If anyone playing along does get a Western Union account number or the like, they can report it and get at least that tiny arm of this shut down.

I had thought about replying screaming about how anxious I was to wire all of the money immediately, and would only require a bank account and routing number, social security number and complete physical mailing address, then realized I don't want the scammers to get MY e-mail address as well. I know they'd have to hack it to get my password, but no point in letting them know they're reaching real, live, active e-mail addys.

I figured this was a case of email hijacking, but I wanted to be sure so I came to visit the VO-BB. Thanks for the info. I had already sent a check to the king of Nigeria, so I was a bit low on funds.
