|
|
I'm giving serious thought to entering the current decade and getting a fancy-ass smart phone (iPhone 4 or 5 I haven't decided yet) and dumping my landlines. I'm down to just one phone session every month or so with everything else done by ISDN or clients trusting me to record it and ship it, but like any good scout I like to be prepared.
Any experience here with phone patch devices for these? I see JK Audio makes a Bluetooth version so I could in theory just pull my TI-101 out of the rack and lay the little Bluetooth box on my desk somewhere.

Thanks for your input!

There is also this potential solution:

This is a breakout cable for the TRRS headphone/mic jack. You can just wire it into your mixer (or dual channel interface).
This will also allow playback. You just need to run the input into a sub mix for your headphone and not into the output, to avoid the feedback loop.
If you have a mixer already, that cable is a MUCH less expensive solve for iPhone Patch. (Disclaimer: I have not physically done this yet, but I plan to sometime this month, I currently just use Skype and call the client) |

I use Google Voice for all my USA phone sessions, and Skype for International sessions. Both are free, have voicemail, and the sound is so much better than old mix-minus boxes like the JK Audio or Gentners I used to have. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Why GV for US, Lance? Prefer it to Skype for some reason?
I have both, but only use Skype to make calls.
Bruce, why not use your ISDN box as the hybrid? I don't know if yours does this, but the Telos Zephyrs can take a POTS call and work as a hybrid quite excellently. As long as your ISDN service is Voice+Data, it should work. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

With Skype, one has to do that whole "add me to Skype" thing that alarmingly so few people get right. With Google Voice, they just call my number, I answer, and we start the session. Also, I don't trust Skype's security whatsoever and will never give them my info to buy credit until they fix that issue. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

Call me blissfully ignorant but I've used Skype as my office phone for over four years with nearly zero problems. Granted, I hate that it's owned by Microsoft and married to Facebook, but so far, so good. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Yeah, I've had no problems with it (other than people who don't get how to use it). I've had friends and family that got hacked - fortunately nothing too bad happened. Now that Skype is connected with FB and Outlook (neither of which are very secure) it's easy to be vulnerable if you're not careful! _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I like just having one system that works with clients whether they know Skype or not. The beauty of the Skype Online number service is my workflow doesn't have to change no matter what they do on their end. Occasionally I'll make a call via Google Talk when I click on a phone number on a website and it brings up the dialer, and it seems to work just fine. It's nice having more than one way to do things in a pinch! _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Bruce, I've heard really good things about Daptor 3 from a friend who's used it extensively on the road with his I-Phone and Bluetooth. |

bob - i don't know about this particular unit - but i've used lots of jk audio products and have been happy with them.
i'm in the same place as lance. i use skpye for international stuff and GV for almost everything else. i don't have the same concerns as lance, it's just the way things have worked out. also if you have GV and a mobile plan that allows you "in" numbers with no billing, you can make ALL your calls, inbound & outbound while using zero minutes. i'll tell you how if you don't already know. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
